The Maserati 8CLT is an open-wheel race car, designed, developed and built by Italian manufacturer Maserati in 1950, conforming to Formula One rules and regulations of the time, set by the FIA. [2] [3]
Two copies were produced, on behalf of the Italian drivers Nino Farina and Franco Rol, to participate in the 1950 Indianapolis 500, it never started the American race and was then sold in New Zealand.
The car was designed and built to take part in the Indianapolis 500. It replaced the obsolete 8CTF, which however still achieved important results. [4]
The mechanics were inspired by that of the 8CL but were perfected using more modern metallurgical treatments and using more appropriate construction techniques.
The great power of the engine led Maserati to strengthen the chassis to obviate the greater stresses. The latter was derived from that of the 4CLT/48. Aerodynamics were also improved, and the model also featured 400mm front drums which were state-of-the-art for the time.
The Maserati, however, was not going through a good moment, and the development of the model was postponed. The subsequent launch at the Indianapolis 500, therefore, did not take place. Two examples were built, which were sold to Scuderia Zambucka, a New Zealand team.
The ignition was single with a Marelli brand magnet. The feeding was forced with two Roots brand compressors, and a carburetor produced by Weber model 52 DCO, positioned upstream of the compressors themselves. Distribution was ensured by four valves per cylinder arranged in a 90° V, and a double overhead camshaft. Lubrication was forced with delivery and recovery pumps. The cooling system was water circulation with a centrifugal pump.
The engine was an eight-cylinder in-line which had a displacement of 2,981.7 cc (181.95 cu in) with the bore and stroke both being 78 mm (3.1 in) and a compression ratio of 6.5: 1. Both bore and stroke were 78mm. The power output was 430 hp at 6500 rpm. [5]
The brakes were drum brakes on the wheels with hydraulic control. The front suspensions consisted of coil springs, while the rear ones consisted of leaf springs. Both were fitted with Houdaille hydraulic shock absorbers. The steering was a worm screw and toothed sector, while the transmission consisted of a four-speed gearbox plus reverse. [6]
The body was an open-wheel design, covered in aluminum, while the chassis was tubular with side members and cross members.<ref>
The maximum speed reached by the model was 320 km/h (200 mph).

Hydropneumatic suspension is a type of motor vehicle suspension system, invented by Paul Magès, produced by Citroën, and fitted to Citroën cars, as well as being used under licence by other car manufacturers. Similar systems are also widely used on modern tanks and other large military vehicles. The suspension was referred to as Suspension oléopneumatique in early literature, pointing to oil and air as its main components.

The Maserati 6CM is an Italian single-seater racing car, made by Maserati of Modena from 1936 to 1940 for the Voiturette racing class. The Maserati 4CL and its derived sister model the Maserati 4CLT are single-seat open-wheel Grand Prix racing cars that were designed and built by Maserati. The 4CL was introduced at the beginning of the 1939 season, as a rival to the Alfa Romeo 158 and various ERA models in the voiturette class of international Grand Prix motor racing. Although racing ceased during World War II, the 4CL was one of the front running models at the resumption of racing in the late 1940s. Experiments with two-stage supercharging and tubular chassis construction eventually led to the introduction of the revised 4CLT model in 1948. The 4CLT was steadily upgraded and updated over the following two years, resulting in the ultimate 4CLT/50 model, introduced for the inaugural year of the Formula One World Championship in 1950. In the immediate post-war period, and the first two years of the Formula One category, the 4CLT was the car of choice for many privateer entrants, leading to numerous examples being involved in most races during this period.

It was a one-off purpose-built racer for the second edition of the 500 Miles of Monza to compete against American race cars. The 412 MI scored a pole position and finished the race on a third place, which was the best European-entry result. As per naming convention "412" stood for 4-litre, 12-cylinder engine. The "MI" suffix stood for "Monza-Indianapolis".

The Chevron B16 was a Group 4 sports prototype race car, designed, developed, and built in 1969 by the British racing car manufacturer Chevron Cars as a two-seater racing sports car for the makes world championship. Brian Redman won the very first outing, the 500 km (310 mi) race at the Nürburgring on September 7, 1969, at a time of 3:13:01.6 hours. The last victory with a Chevron B16 was achieved by Clemens Schickentanz on July 11, 1971, in the sports car race at the Norisring.
The Ferrari 166 FL was a single-seat open-wheel race car, designed, developed and built by Italian manufacturer and team, Scuderia Ferrari, 1949 to 1952. Only three cars were produced. The designation 166 refers to the (rounded) displacement of a single cylinder, which corresponded to the nomenclature of the company at the time. The abbreviation FL stands for Formula Libre, which is the type of category and racing series that the car competed in. Since the car was mainly developed for racing in South America, it was also known as the 166 C America.
