Matthew J. O'Shea is the Alderman of the 19th ward of Chicago,serving since 2011.
O'Shea is a lifelong resident of the 19th ward. [1]
O'Shea attended Christ the King elementary school and Mount Carmel High School. [1] He received a degree from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. [1]
In his career,O'Shea worked as a social worker,and later became the director of a community center. [1] He also served as an aide to his 19th ward aldermanic predecessor Virginia Rugai. [1]
O'Shea has sat on several boards in the Beverly neighborhood, [1] and has been a volunteer and board member for the Special Olympics Chicago. [1]
O'Shea was first elected alderman in 2011. [1] He has been reelected in 2015 [2] and 2019. [3]
He was supportive of Rahm Emanuel as Mayor of Chicago, [4] and has claimed to have made safety a top priority for his ward. [5]

Participatory budgeting is a Chicago democratic process in which community members directly decide how to allocate part of a public budget. The 19th Ward does not participate in participatory budgeting with O'Shea opting to keep the menu budgeting decisions to his office.
In the 2019 Chicago mayoral election,O'Shea endorsed Jerry Joyce in the first round of the election [8] and endorsed Lori Lightfoot in the runoff. [9] His endorsement of Lightfoot has been credited with securing her strong support in his ward in the runoff vote. [10]
Anthony A. Beale is an American politician and the alderman of the 9th ward of the City of Chicago,Illinois United States. Beale is noted as having been one of the youngest members to serve as elected official on the City of Chicago's City Council. Beale was first elected in 1999. In 2023 Beale was elected to his seventh term in office. In 2013,Beale was an unsuccessful candidate in the Democratic primary for the special election to replace Jesse Jackson Jr. as U.S. Congressman from Illinois' 2nd congressional district.

The 2019 Chicago mayoral election was held on February 26,2019,to determine the next Mayor of the City of Chicago,Illinois. Since no candidate received a majority of votes,a runoff election was held on April 2,2019,between the two candidates with the most votes,Lori Lightfoot and Toni Preckwinkle. Lightfoot defeated Preckwinkle in the runoff election to become mayor,and was sworn in as mayor on May 20,2019.
The 2019 Chicago elections took place in two rounds on February 26,2019,and April 2,2019. Elections were held for Mayor of Chicago,City Clerk of Chicago,City Treasurer of Chicago,and all 50 members of the Chicago City Council. The candidates who won in these elections were inaugurated on May 20,2019. Four ballot referendums were also voted on in certain precincts. The elections were administered by the Chicago Board of Elections.
