The coastal plain apamea (Melanapamea mixta, [1] synonyms include Apamea mixta [2] ) is a moth of the family Noctuidae. [1] It can be found in scattered populations from Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia in Canada, south along the coast towards New Jersey (where it could be found historically) and North Carolina. [2] Also inland in New York and western Maryland. [2] It has also been reported from Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan and Ohio.[ citation needed ] However, its full distribution is unknown. [2]
The larvae probably feed on grasses or sedges.[ citation needed ]
It can be easily confused with Apamea impulsa, but is significantly different. [2]
Its habitat is not completely understood, but it appears to live in bogs. [2] Its diet is likely to be based on specific grasses or sedges, but is unknown. [2]
