Melissa Peirce (born 1975) is an American country and pop music songwriter based in Nashville, Tennessee.

Early life and education

Peirce was born and raised in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. [1] She moved to Nashville at age 18, and enrolled in Belmont University. [2] She worked at Giant Records as an A&R assistant while writing songs at night, before joining Malaco Music Group as a songwriter. [3]

Career

In 2004, Peirce won an ASCAP Award for writing Reba McEntire's "I'm Gonna Take That Mountain", launching her career. [4] She co-wrote the Tyler Farr song "A Guy Walks Into a Bar", which reached number 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. The song also reached number 7 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, [5] number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100, [6] and was named one of 11 Songs I Wish I'd Written at the 2015 Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony. [7] She has written singles including David Nail's "Red Light", which reached number 7 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, Eli Young Band's "Say Goodnight" and Lady Antebellum's "Hurt". [8] [9] Her songs have also been recorded by Garth Brooks, Carrie Underwood, LeAnn Rimes, Joss Stone, Keith Urban and Olivia Holt. [1] [8]

Since 2012, she has been signed to Disney Music Publishing. [1] [8]

Lady A is an American country music group formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2006. The group is composed of Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley, and Dave Haywood. Scott is the daughter of country music singer Linda Davis, and Kelley is the brother of pop singer Josh Kelley. The band abbreviated the name to "Lady A" in June 2020 during the George Floyd protests in an attempt to blunt the name's associations with slavery and the Antebellum South, inadvertently causing a dispute with black blues and gospel singer Anita White, who had been using the name Lady A for more than 20 years.

Suffer in Peace is the second studio album by American country music artist Tyler Farr, released on April 28, 2015, through Columbia Nashville. Following the success of his 2013 debut effort Redneck Crazy, Farr reteamed with producers Jim Catino and Julian King to work on new material for his next country album, carrying traditional content that spoke about his life while telling relatable stories. Reviews for the record were positive to mixed, with critics divided over the production and lyrical content. Suffer in Peace debuted at numbers two and four on the Top Country Albums and Billboard 200 charts, respectively. It spawned three singles: "A Guy Walks Into a Bar", "Withdrawals" and "Better in Boots". After performing at NBC's Today on the album's release date and holding a concert the next day in Manhattan's Irving Plaza, Farr was set to tour with Lee Brice in February 2016 but had to go through surgery and be put on vocal rest. This would be Farr's last record for the label before leaving in September 2018 and signing with Jason Aldean's Night Train Records in March 2019.
