Michael Joseph "Mike" Kopetski (born October 27,1949,in Pendleton,Oregon) is an American lawyer,businessman,and former politician who served two terms as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts from American University and Juris Doctor from Lewis &Clark Law School.
He ran unsuccessfully for the United States House of Representatives in 1982,losing in the Democratic primary for Oregon's newly created 5th district. He ran again in 1988,this time winning the nomination. In the general election,he lost by a mere 707 votes to incumbent Denny Smith. In 1990,Kopetski ran against Smith again and defeated him,in part by tying Smith to the savings and loan crisis. [1]
Kopetski served the 5th district from 1991 to 1995 and sat on the Ways and Means Committee. He did not seek reelection in 1994.
After leaving Congress,Kopetski became an international trade consultant and currently serves on the board of On2 Technologies, [2] in which he held a ten percent ownership interest until disposing of 50,000 of his 69,200 shares in September 2006. [3]
He is a former Director General of the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) in Indonesia. [4]
He and his wife have lived in many countries.

The Public Utility Holding Company Act of 1935 (PUHCA),also known as the Wheeler-Rayburn Act,was a US federal law giving the Securities and Exchange Commission authority to regulate,license,and break up electric utility holding companies. It limited holding company operations to a single state,thus subjecting them to effective state regulation. It also broke up any holding companies with more than two tiers,forcing divestitures so that each became a single integrated system serving a limited geographic area. Another purpose of the PUHCA was to keep utility holding companies engaged in regulated businesses from also engaging in unregulated businesses. The act was based on the conclusions and recommendations of the 1928-35 Federal Trade Commission investigation of the electric industry. On March 12,1935,President Franklin D. Roosevelt released a report he commissioned by the National Power Policy Committee. This report became the template for the PUHCA. The political battle over its passage was one of the bitterest of the New Deal,and was followed by eleven years of legal appeals by holding companies led by the Electric Bond and Share Company,which finally completed its breakup in 1961.

David Paul Weber is an American criminalist,and the former Assistant Inspector General for Investigations at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Weber was a whistleblower who reported allegations about foreign espionage against the stock exchanges,and misconduct in the Bernard L. Madoff and R. Allen Stanford Ponzi scheme investigations. In June 2013,the SEC settled with Weber his whistleblower protection and U.S. District Court lawsuits,paying him one of the largest federal employee whistleblower settlements ever. On July 30,2015,Weber was recognized by six United States Senators and one member of the House of Representatives at the First Congressional Celebration of National Whistleblower Appreciation Day. On August 5,2021,Weber met with the President,Speaker of the House,and Senators at the signing of H.R. 3325,the awarding of the Congressional Gold Medal for those officers who lost their lives at the Capitol Insurrection,as he represents one of the deceased police officers and his widow. Weber is now a forensic accounting professor at the Perdue School,Salisbury University. As part of his teaching duties,he is a special investigator for the Maryland State's Attorneys Offices in two adjoining counties,and a Virginia financial crimes state prosecutor in the neighboring Virginia county. He supervises his students who act as intern investigators on financial crime cases.
