The Cannes Film Festival, until 2003 called the International Film Festival, is an annual film festival held in Cannes, France, which previews new films of all genres, including documentaries, from all around the world. Founded in 1946, the invitation-only festival is held annually at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. The festival was formally accredited by the FIAPF in 1951.
Hirokazu Kore-eda is a Japanese film director, producer, screenwriter, and editor. He began his career in television and has since directed more than a dozen feature films, including Nobody Knows (2004), Still Walking (2008), and After the Storm (2016). He won the Jury Prize at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival for Like Father, Like Son and won the Palme d'Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival for Shoplifters.

Tabu is a 2012 Portuguese independent black-and-white drama film directed by Miguel Gomes, the title of which references F. W. Murnau's silent film of the same name. The film competed at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the Alfred Bauer Award and The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) prizes. It won the Grand Prix at the 2012 edition of Film Fest Gent.

Arabian Nights is a 2015 internationally co-produced three-part drama film directed by Miguel Gomes and based on the One Thousand and One Nights, comprising Volume 1: The Restless One, Volume 2: The Desolate One and Volume 3: The Enchanted One. It was screened as part of the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. The film was also selected to be shown in the Wavelengths section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.
The 68th Cannes Film Festival was held from 13 to 24 May 2015. Ethan Coen and Joel Coen were the Co-Presidents of the Jury for the main competition. It was the first time that two people chaired the jury. Since the Coen brothers each received a separate vote, they were joined by seven other jurors to form the customary nine-juror panel. French actor Lambert Wilson was the host for the opening and closing ceremonies. The Official Selection of films for the 2015 festival, including the line-up for the Main Competition, was announced on 16 April 2015.

It is the second installment in Garrel's trilogy of love, the first being Jealousy (2013) and the third being Lover for a Day (2017). The film was selected to open the Directors' Fortnight section of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
Lover for a Day is a 2017 French drama film co-written and directed by Philippe Garrel, starring Éric Caravaca, Esther Garrel and Louise Chevillotte. It is the third and final installment in Garrel's trilogy of love, following Jealousy (2013) and In the Shadow of Women (2015). The film had its world premiere in the Directors' Fortnight section of the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the SACD Award.
The Orphanage is a 2019 Danish-Afghan drama film written and directed by Shahrbanoo Sadat. It was screened in the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. It is the second installment in a planned pentalogy based on the unpublished diaries of Anwar Hashimi, who plays a supporting character in the film. Its prequel, Wolf and Sheep, came out in 2016. It has been nominated for best film at several different film festivals, winning at an international festival. They won the Best Film award at the Reykjavik International Film Festival in 2019.
