Kent Mikael Appelgren (born 15 October 1961 in Stockholm) is a Swedish former table tennis player. [1]
He was 4-times World Champion, 9-times European Champion, 2-times Europe Top-12 winner, and World Cup winner. [2] He also won an English Open title.
He is left-handed and is known for his ability to play well far away from the table. This particular style became known over the years as 'appleing'. [ citation needed ]
Applegren coaches Swedish first league team Ängby/Spårvägen and was present when Jan-Ove Waldner ended his career on 11 February 2016.
Jan-Ove Waldner, in Sweden commonly J-O Waldner (Swedish: [ˈjiː uː], is a Swedish former table tennis player. He is often referred to as "the Mozart of table tennis." A sporting legend in his native Sweden as well as in China, he is known in China as 老瓦 Lǎo Wǎ or 常青树 Cháng Qīng Shù, because of his extraordinary longevity and competitiveness. As of July 2021, he is the only person to win an Olympic table tennis gold medal representing a non-Asian country.
Jörgen Persson is a Swedish table tennis player. In two memorable World Table Tennis Championships finals he faced fellow Swede Jan-Ove Waldner in 1989 and 1991, losing the former and winning the latter. He also won four World Championship titles in Team.

Ryu Seung-min is a Korean table tennis player who won the gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in the men's singles competition. At the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics he was part of the South Korean team that won the bronze and silver medals respectively. Ryu is ranked twenty-fifth in the world as of July 2013. In 2016, Ryu became a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), he was a member and Chair of the Athletes' Commission of the South Korean National Olympic Committee from 2016 to 2019. Jörg Roßkopf is a former professional German table tennis player who is currently the head coach of the German Men's National Table Tennis Team. As a player, he won the title in Men's Doubles at the 1989 World Table Tennis Championships and the silver medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, with Steffen Fetzner as his partner. In men's singles, he won the bronze medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and the gold medal at the Table Tennis World Cup in 1998. As a coach, he was awarded the ITTF Star Coach award in 2017.

It has been awarded by a jury led by the Swedish morning paper Svenska Dagbladet since 1925.
