Minions 3 is an upcoming animated comedy film produced by Illumination and Universal Pictures and distributed by Universal. It is the sequel to Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022), the third film in the Minions film series, the seventh entry of the Despicable Me franchise, and the seventeenth film produced by Illumination.

Development

The production of Minions 3 started in July 2024 when it was announced by Illumination's CEO Chris Meledandri, after Despicable Me 4 's successful box office gross. [1]

Audio leak

In October 2025, during a test screening, an audience member snuck in a recording device and recorded the entire audio of the film, which was then posted online. [2]

Release

Minions 3 is scheduled for release on July 1, 2026. It was originally going to release on June 30, 2027, but later took the original release date for DreamWorks Animation's Shrek 5 . [1] [3]

As part of Universal's long-term deal with Netflix, the film will stream on Peacock for the first four months of the pay-TV window, before moving to Netflix for the next ten, and returning to Peacock for the remaining four. [4] [5]
