Minions 3 is an upcoming American animated comedy film produced by Illumination and distributed by Universal Pictures. It will be directed by Pierre Coffin based on a screenplay by Brian Lynch, and is the sequel to Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022), a prequel to Despicable Me (2010), the third film in the Minions film series, and the seventh entry overall of the Despicable Me franchise.
Minions 3 is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 1, 2026.
The production of Minions 3 started in July 2024 when it was announced by Illumination's CEO Chris Meledandri, after Despicable Me 4 's successful box office gross. [1]
In October 2025, during a test screening, an audience member snuck in a recording device and recorded the entire audio of the film, which was then posted online. [2]
Minions 3 is scheduled for release on July 1, 2026. It was originally going to release on June 30, 2027, but later took the original release date for DreamWorks Animation's Shrek 5 . [1] [3] [4]
As part of Universal's long-term deal with Netflix for its animated films, the film will stream on Peacock for the first four months of the pay-TV window, before moving to Netflix for the next ten, and returning to Peacock for the remaining four. [5] [6]
