The Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS) is a Cabinet-level government ministry of Zambia. It is mandated to lead in the formulation and implementation of national employment, labour, and social security policy. The ministry is also responsible in monitoring national productivity, occupational safety and health, and relations between employees and their employers. [2] The ministry is headed by Minister of Labour and Social Security, currently Brenda Mwika Tambatamba. [3]

Location

The headquarters of the MLSS are located in the New Government Complex in the Cathedral Hill neighborhood of the city of Lusaka, the capital of Zambia. [4] The coordinates of the headquarters of the MCTI are 15°25'21.0"S, 28°17'25.0"E (Latitude:-15.422499; Longitude:28.290270). [5]

Social security project

Since 2007, the government has had a national security scheme for seniors aged 60 years and older. As of 2012, approximately 4,000 individuals were beneficiaries of monthly payments. The scheme is under expansion to cover more seniors. [7]

Central Province is one of Zambia's ten provinces. The provincial capital is Kabwe, which is the home of the Mulungushi Rock of Authority. Central Province has an area of 94,394 km (58,654 mi). It borders eight other provinces and has eleven districts. The total area of forest in the province is 9,095,566 ha, and it has a national park and three game management areas. The first mine in the region was opened up in 1905 making the then Broken Hill town the first mining town. In 1966, the town's name was reverted to its indigenous name - Kabwe meaning 'ore' or 'smelting'.

Margaret Mhango Mwanakatwe is a Zambian politician who was the Minister of Finance from 14 February 2018 to 14 July 2019. She worked previously as a businesswoman, accountant, and bank executive. She was the director for business development in Anglophone Africa at the United Bank for Africa at the bank's headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria. In this role, she supervised business development in Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. Before that, she served as the managing director and chief executive officer of the United Bank for Africa Uganda Limited from March 2009 until May 2011.

The Department of Employment and Labour is the department of the South African government responsible for matters related to employment, including industrial relations, job creation, unemployment insurance and occupational health and safety. Through a range of initiatives developed in collaboration with social partners, the Department of Employment and Labour makes a substantial contribution to the decline in inequality, poverty, and unemployment. These programs aim to reduce workplace poverty, promote positive labor relations, increase economic efficiency and productivity, eliminate workplace discrimination and inequality.

Joyce Nonde-Simukoko is a Zambian politician. She was appointed the Minister of Labour and Social Security in the Cabinet of Zambia by President Edgar Chagwa Lungu on 15 September 2016.
