Mississippi Highway 555 (MS 555) is a state highway in southwestern Mississippi. The route has two sections, both in Adams County. The first section starts at Ogden Road and travels northwestward to its terminus at US 61. The second section starts at the concurrency of MS 930 and MS 932 and the concurrency of US 61 and US 84 in Natchez. MS 555 travels northward through Pine Ridge and ends at Anna's Bottom Road near the Anna site. The route travels by a few historical locations, including the Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church.

The route was designated in 1957, from Natchez to northern Adams County. An additional section from southern Adams County to Wilkinson County was added in 1960, but it was removed by 1967.

Both sections of the route is located in Adams County. [5] MS 555 is legally defined in Mississippi Code § 65-3-3, [6] as part of the state highway system. MDOT maintains the section from MS 930/932 and US 61/84 to MS 554, and Adams County maintains all other sections. [1]

The southern section of MS 555 starts at the intersection of Ogden Road and Kingston Road, northwest of the unincorporated area of Kingston. [5] The route travels northwestward along Kingston Road, crossing over Sharp Bayou. Continuing through the forest, [2] the road crosses over Second Creek and intersects Greenfield Road. MS 555 then turns westward, passing by the Cherry Grove Plantation, [7] and it ends at US 61 at a T-intersection. [5]

The northern section of the route starts at the intersection of D'Evereux Drive (MS 930/932) and Prentiss Drive (US 61/84) in suburban Natchez. [3] MS 555 then travels northwestward to its intersection with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street and turns northward. The road intersects multiple driveways, leaving Natchez as Dr. Martin Luther King Street. [8] The route enters into a forested area, and it travels northeastward at Pineview Drive. It intersects MS 554 at Pine Ridge, [5] where the Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church is located. [9] The road passes by Mount Repose soon after. [3] [10] MS 555 continues through rural Adams County until its intersection with Church Hill Road. The road turns northwest toward the Anna site. [5] After traveling through a dense forest, MS 555 intersects Quitman Road and continues on a gravel road. [3] Past the intersection at Thornburg Lake Road, [5] the route ends at the legally defined terminus at the old Pine Ridge School. [6] The road continues eastward as Anna's Bottom Road. [5]

History

In 1955, a road from Natchez to Selma was constructed. [11] [12] MS 555 was designated two years later, after a new road was created, connecting from Natchez to northern Adams County. [13] [14] In 1960, the route was extended along a gravel road to the Adams–Jefferson county line. [15] [16] Two years later, the southern segments of MS 554, which extended from MS 563 in Wilkinson County to US 61 in Adams County, was renumbered to MS 555. [16] [17] The southern segment was removed from the 1967 map. The gravel section of the northern segment was also removed. [18] [19] The southern reappeared on the 1974 map, but no longer state maintained, along with the segment north of MS 554. [20] [21] In 1998, the northern segment was truncated to Church Hill Road, [22] [23] but the legally designated terminus remain unchanged. [6]

Mississippi Highway 365 is a state highway in northeastern Mississippi. The route starts at MS 30 in Burton and travels northward. It travels into Burnsville and intersects U.S. Route 72. MS 365 continues northeastward and ends at MS 25 west of Pickwick Lake. The route was designated by 1950, connecting from MS 30 to MS 364. It was extended northward to MS 356 around 1958 and was completely paved by 1964. The route replaced parts of MS 356 in 1965, and its northern terminus was changed to MS 25.

Mississippi Highway 2 is a designation for two highways in northern Mississippi. The westernmost segment starts at MS 5 in Hickory Flat, and ends at MS 15 and MS 368 in Blue Mountain. The eastern segment starts at MS 4 near Ripley and it travels northeastwards towards Corinth. The route becomes concurrent with U.S. Route 72 and US 45 in Corinth, and ends at the Tennessee state line. The road continues as Tennessee State Route 22. The route was designated around 1932, from the state line near Mount Pleasant to the state line near Corinth. The section west of Corinth became a part of US 72 by 1935, and the route was extended southwestwards to Hickory Flat by 1958.

Mississippi Highway 554 is a short highway near Natchez, Mississippi. The route starts at MS 555, and travels eastward. The road intersects the entrance to Natchez–Adams County Airport before ending at U.S. Route 61. The route was designated in 1957, and it included a separate route in southern Adams County. MS 554 was temporarily removed from the highway system in 1967, but was added back in 1973.

Mississippi Highway 469 is a state highway in central Mississippi, located in Simpson and Rankin counties. The route starts at MS 28 near Georgetown, and it travels north through western Simpson County. The road enters the community of Harrisville and enters Rankin County soon after. It intersects U.S. Route 49 in Florence, and it ends at MS 468 near Whitfield. The route was designated in 1953, and it was extended southwards to MS 20 in 1956. By 1960, all of the route was paved with asphalt.

Mississippi Highway 53 is a state highway in Mississippi. The highway starts at U.S. Highway 49 in Gulfport and travels northwestward to MS 603 in Hancock County. It was designated in 1956, starting at MS 1 south of Scott, and ending at Choctaw. Starting in 1962, the section near Stringtown was rerouted significantly. The last realignment was in 1974, where the section near Stringtown was straightened, and US 61 moved east of Choctaw.

Mississippi Highway 198 is a state highway in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The highway is the designation for six former segments of U.S. Highway 98 that have been bypassed by newer alignments. These six segments are located in Tylertown, Columbia, Hattiesburg, Beaumont, McLain, and Lucedale. Five of the six sections of MS 198 are two-lane undivided roads that pass through small towns; the exception is the Hattiesburg section which is a four-lane divided highway running through developed areas of the city. The total length of the six sections of MS 198 is 24.937 miles (40.132 km).

Mississippi Highway 465 is a highway in the southern region of the Mississippi Delta. The highway starts at U.S. Route 61 near Redwood. It travels westward towards the Mississippi River, and then northwards to the village of Eagle Bend. The highway then traverses on the Mississippi River levee on a one-lane road. Later, MS 465 leaves the levee, continues northward, and soon ends at MS 1.

Mississippi Highway 612 is a highway in southeastern Mississippi. The route starts at MS 613, southwest of Lucedale. It travels southeastward through George County, crossing over Escatawpa River. The route ends at the Alabama state line, and County Road 7 continues into Mobile County. MS 612 was designated in 1966, and no significant changes have been made to the route since.

Mississippi Highway 332 is a highway in central Mississippi. Its western terminus is at U.S. Route 51 in Grenada. The route travels northeastward through farmland to Grenada Municipal Airport. The road continues to its eastern terminus at Toe Road, southwest of the Grenada Lake. The designation was created in 1958 for a former segment of MS 7, which was rerouted north of the lake.

Mississippi Highway 37 is a state highway in central Mississippi. The route starts at U.S. Route 84 near Collins. The road travels northward through the town of Taylorsville, crossing from Covington County to Smith County. MS 37 turns northwestward and ends at MS 35 in Raleigh. The road first existed as part of MS 35, and it became a spur route of MS 35 by 1941. It was renumbered as MS 37 by 1950, and fully paved by 1952.

Mississippi Highway 531 (MS 531) is a state highway in central Mississippi. The road starts at MS 28 near Taylorsville and travels northeastward. It crosses from Smith County to Jasper County, and ends at MS 18 in the town of Bay Springs. The route was designated in 1956 along its current alignment, and it was paved by 1960.

Mississippi Highway 41 (MS 41) is a state highway in northeastern Mississippi. The route starts at U.S. Route 45 and US 278 north of Wren and travels westwards. It then intersects US 45 Alt. east of Okolona. The road enters Okolona, and intersects MS 32 and MS 245. MS 41 then turns northwest and travels toward Pontotoc. Once inside the city, the route turns north at MS 15 and travels through downtown Pontotoc. MS 41 ends at its intersection with MS 9 and MS 338. The route that became MS 41 was first used as an Indian trail. The route was designated by 1932 from Amory to Pontotoc, and it was truncated from Amory to US 45 by 1955. The entirety of MS 41 was paved by 1958.

Mississippi Highway 569 is a state highway in southwestern Mississippi. The route starts at the Mississippi–Louisiana state line, and it travels northeastward from that point. It intersects MS 48 southwest of Liberty, and MS 569 becomes concurrent with it. Inside Liberty, MS 569 is also concurrent with MS 24 briefly before travelling northeastward out of the city. It continues through Amite County and it ends at U.S. Route 98 in extreme southwestern Lincoln County.

Mississippi Highway 462 is a state highway in western Mississippi. The route starts at U.S. Route 61 near Port Gibson, and it travels eastward. The road then turns northeastward, and the route ends at Willows Road and Old Port Gibson Road near Willows. MS 462 was designated around 1958, as a gravel road extending eastward from US 61 near Port Gibson. The road was extended to MS 461 from 1960 to 1963, then to the Natchez Trace Parkway from 1967 to 1998.

Mississippi Highway 403 is a state highway in central Mississippi. The route starts at U.S. Route 82 and MS 15 in Mathiston, and it travels north away from the town. It then turns east near Natchez Trace Parkway and then travels below it. MS 403 ends at the intersection of Clarkson Road and Old US 82 near a county highway maintenance barn. The route was designated by 1960, after a paved road extending from Mathiston was constructed around 1958. An extension northwards to MS 50 and MS 341 existed from 1960 to 1967.

Mississippi Highway 389 is a state highway that runs from south to north in the U.S. State of Mississippi. MS 389 currently exists in two sections. The southern section begins at MS 182 in Starkville. The road travels north out of the city, and crosses U.S. Route 82 and MS 15. North of Starkville, the route continues northwestwards and ends at the Oktibbeha–Clay county line south of Pheba. The northern section starts at MS 46 west of Montpelier, and it travels north to cross the Natchez Trace Parkway in Chickasaw County. MS 389 ends at MS 8 in Houston.

Mississippi Highway 552 (MS 552) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Mississippi that travels through Claiborne and Jefferson counties. The highway, consisting of two segments connected via McBride Road, connects Alcorn State University with Lorman, Natchez Trace Parkway and U.S. Route 61 (US 61) and other small communities in northern Jefferson County.
