Modenas GT128

Modenas CT series is a series of underbone motorcycles produced by Malaysian motorcycle manufacturer, Modenas. The CT were first launched in 2009 as a legitimate successor of the popular Modenas Kriss series. Before the CT was developed, another underbone model known as Modenas Kristar was produced in 2004 but the production ended two years later due to lack of appeal. The 100 cc and 110 cc engines derived from the Kriss series remain unchanged, but with the addition of a decompression mechanism for the 110 cc model to ease starting. [4]

In 2011, an electric version of the CT known as the Modenas CTric was launched, making the CTric as the first all-electric motorcycle being sold in Malaysia. [5]

In 2013, the fuel-injected version of the CT was launched in Greece as Modenas Kriss 125i EFI. [6] The fuel-injected model is later released for Malaysian domestic market as Modenas 118EFI. [7]

Model history

The CT was debuted on 23 October 2009 for the 110 cc model. [4] It features an all-new design developed in-house by Modenas, with the exception of the AN110 engine developed by Kawasaki. Later, the 100 cc model was released on 13 February 2010, [8] with same MB100 engine derived from Kriss 100. Both models have a 5.3-liter fuel tank each, which is claimed by Modenas as the largest among underbone motorcycles at that time, before being surpassed by the 2012 Honda Future 125. [4]

Modenas CTric (2011-present)

In 2010, Modenas developed an electric motorcycle model through a partnership with Universiti Sains Malaysia. According to Modenas, the CTric is the first Malaysian-made electric motorcycle that has passed the latest SIRIM MS2413 standard for electric motorcycles as well as the JIS standards. [9]

The electric motorcycle is powered by a brushless DC electric motor, producing the peak power of 3.6 kW at the speed of 80 km/h, [3] though ratified at 1.0 kW. Power is supplied by five 12-volt nano-gel batteries capable of producing 60 V, 20 Ah of electricity. [3] The motorcycle can be recharged by using an ordinary BS 1363 240-volt, 13-amp power outlet, with the charging times of 3.5 hours (fast charging) or 8 hours (slow charging). Once fully charged, the CTric's traveling range is between 30–50 km.

The performance of the CTric is comparable with a 90 cc underbone motorcycle, with the top speed of about 70–80 km/h. [9]

Modenas 118EFI / Kriss 125i EFI (2013-present)

On 22 March 2013, Modenas launched the fuel-injected version of the CT in Greece as Modenas Kriss 125i EFI. The Kriss 125i uses the larger 120 cc engine mated together with the fuel injection system with a lambda sensor supplied by Synerject. [6] The same model was later launched in the home market as the Modenas 118EFI during the DRB-Hicom Autofest in Penang on 30 July 2013. [7] The fuel-injected variant uses the same 120 cc engine being derived from the Kriss 120 and Ace 115 but with slightly lower power output. [10] The 118EFI was sold in Malaysia with the price tag of RM4,755.00. [7]

Underbone

An underbone is a type of motorcycle that uses structural tube framing with an overlay of plastic or non-structural body panels and contrasts with monocoque or unibody designs where pressed steel serves both as the vehicle's structure and bodywork. Outside Asia, the term underbone is commonly misunderstood to refer to any lightweight motorcycle that uses the construction type, known colloquially as step-throughs, mopeds or scooters.

Suzuki Raider 150 Type of motorcycle

The Suzuki Raider 150 or Suzuki Satria 150 and Suzuki Belang R150 in Malaysia uses the 150 cc (9.2 cu in) DOHC four-valve single-cylinder engine based from Suzuki FXR150, with a six-speed transmission. The frame, rear swing arm, rear suspension, seat and front brakes are redesigned from the Suzuki FX125 chassis, making it more aerodynamic.

Yamaha RX-Z 135 was a two-stroke naked bike manufactured by Yamaha Motor Corporation. Debuting in April 1985, the RX-Z was very popular in Malaysia and Singapore and was sold for more than two decades before the production was ended in 2011.

Yamaha Lagenda Type of motorcycle

Modenas Kriss series Motor vehicle

The Modenas Kriss series is the debut 4-stroke underbone motorcycle series by Malaysian motorcycle manufacturer, Modenas. The original Kriss 110 was developed through a partnership with Kawasaki, which partly owned Modenas, based on Kawasaki Kazer 110 underbone model. The Kriss is actually named after a Malay traditional weapon, kris, though some motorcycle shops in the United Kingdom had mistakenly advertised the model to be named from the acronym of a famous American motorcycle racer, Kenny Roberts because Modenas had once built some racing motorcycles for Modenas KR Motorcycle Grand Prix team.

Uma Racing Sdn Bhd is a Malaysia brand of aftermarket motorcycle parts. It manufactures high cam, gear box, carburetor, clutch disc, valve, superhead and other parts.

SYM Sport Rider 125i Type of motorcycle


The SYM Sport Rider 125i is the first fuel-injected underbone motorcycle model by Taiwanese motorcycle company SYM Motors. The SYM Sport Rider 125i is powered by a fuel-injected 125 cc 4-stroke gasoline engine. It was debuted in Malaysia on 27 August 2016 before being sold in other markets like Vietnam and the Philippines.

SYM VF3i Type of motorcycle

The SYM VF3i 185 is a fuel-injected underbone motorcycle model by Taiwanese motorcycle company SYM Motors. The SYM VF3i is currently the largest-engined underbone motorcycle in the world, powered by a 183 cc SOHC 4-valve water-cooled engine. It was debuted in Malaysia on 5 April 2018 before being sold in Vietnam later in December. In Vietnam, however, the VF3i is given a smaller 174.5 cc engine and is sold as the SYM Star SR 170. 31hp
