Mohd Hayati bin Othman (born 12 June 1957) is a Malaysian politician who has served as Member of the Kedah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Tokai since May 2018. He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Pendang from March 2004 to May 2013. He is a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS),a component party of the PN and formerly Gagasan Sejahtera (GS),Pakatan Rakyat (PR) and Barisan Alternatif (BA) coalitions. [1]
Hayati was elected to the Pendang seat in the 2004 election with a 50-vote margin. Two years earlier,he had been defeated in a by-election for the seat occasioned by the death of PAS's leader Fadzil Noor. The 2004 victory was a rare win for PAS in an election where it lost 20 of its 27 seats. Hayati then increased his majority in the 2008 election. [2] He had contested the seat in a by-election in 2002,but was defeated by Othman Abdul of the United Malay National Organisation. [3] He was replaced as the PAS candidate for Pendang ahead of the 2013 election,to make way for the party's deputy president Mat Sabu,and the party lost the seat to the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO). [4]
In January 2010,Mohd Hayati was conferred the honorific title of Datuk by Sultan Abdul Halim of Kedah. [5]

The Malaysian Islamic Party,also known as the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party or its Jawi-based acronym PAS,is an Islamist political party in Malaysia. Ideologically focused on Islamic fundamentalism,PAS's electoral base is largely centred around Peninsular Malaysia's rural and eastern coasts and conservative northern,particularly in the states of Kelantan,Terengganu,Perlis,and Kedah. They also gained significant support in the rural areas of Perak and Pahang in the last 2022 general election and the 2023 state elections;dubbed as the "Green Wave".
Badruddin bin Amiruldin is a Malaysian politician. He is currently the Permanent Chairman of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO),the largest Malay political party in the country and the leader of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He was also a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO),a component party of the BN coalition. He left UMNO with Mahathir and they founded BERSATU in 2016. Mahathir and his BERSATU memberships were terminated and they founded PEJUANG in 2020. He is one of the two Menteris Besar of Malaysia who represented two different political parties and coalitions.
Dato' Ustaz Haji Fadzil bin Muhammad Noor was a Malaysian politician and religious teacher. He was the president of Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) from 1989 to 2002 and Leader of the Opposition in the Parliament of Malaysia from 1999 to 2002.
Azizan bin Abdul Razak was a Malaysian politician who served as the 10th Menteri Besar of the state of Kedah from 2008 to 2013. A member of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS),he was the first Chief Minister of Kedah from a party other than the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO). He held the seat of Sungai Limau in the Kedah state assembly from 2004 until his death in 2013.
