Mohnish Bahl (born 14 August 1962) [1] is an Indian actor working in the Indian film industry and on Indian television.

Career

Mohnish Bahl debuted with the film Bekarar in a supporting role opposite Padmini Kolhapure and Sanjay Dutt but the film was a critical and commercial failure. His subsequent release was Teri Bahon Mein , a remake of The Blue Lagoon with Ayesha Dutt, wife of Jackie Shroff, which was also a failure. His only commercial success in a leading role was Purana Mandir though it was considered a B grade film. [2] The 1999 film Hum Saath-Saath Hain is considered the film that transformed Bahl's career. [2] He has starred in over 100 films, and has been nominated for two Filmfare Awards.

Early life and family

Bahl was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He is the only son of noted actress Nutan and Lt. Cdr. Rajnish Bahl, [3] and is a prominent member of the Mukherjee-Samarth family.

He married actress Aarti Bahl (known as Ekta Sohini) on 23 April 1992 and they have two children: actress Pranutan Bahl and Krishaa Bahl. [4]

Raja Hindustani is a 1996 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film directed by Dharmesh Darshan. It tells the story of a cab driver from a small town who falls in love with a rich young woman. Aamir Khan and Karisma Kapoor play the lead roles. Released on 15 November 1996, the film's plot was inspired from the 1965 film Jab Jab Phool Khile, starring Shashi Kapoor and Nanda. Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! is a 1994 Indian Hindi-language musical romantic drama film written and directed by Sooraj Barjatya and produced by Rajshri Productions. The film stars Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan and celebrates Indian wedding traditions by means of a story of a married couple and the relationship between their families; a story about sacrificing one's love for one's family. The basic plot is based on studio's earlier film Nadiya Ke Paar (1982), which was based on Keshav Prasad Mishra's Hindi novel Kohbar Ki Shart. The film features music by Raamlaxman who also composed a 14-song soundtrack, an unusually large number of songs for that period.

Hum Saath-Saath Hain, also abbreviated as HSSH, is a 1999 Indian Hindi-language family drama film written and directed by Sooraj Barjatya under the production and distribution of Rajshri Productions. The film stars an ensemble cast with Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Tabu, Sonali Bendre, Mohnish Bahl alongside Neelam, Mahesh Thakur, Reema Lagoo and Alok Nath. The story centers on a joint family and its values and togetherness, who grow apart after a misunderstanding.

The Mukherjee-Samarth family is a Hindu Bengali-Marathi family that has been involved in the Hindi film industry since the 1930s, Shobhana Samarth having first acted in a film in 1935. The Mukherjee family was connected to the Samarth family by Tanuja's marriage to Shomu Mukherjee in 1973.
