Molly Windsor is an English actress. Her breakthrough role was in the 2009 Channel 4 television film The Unloved , and she has appeared in Oranges and Sunshine (2010) and The Runaways (2019). She is best known for her performance in the 2017 BBC miniseries Three Girls , for which she won the 2018 BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress; in 2017, she was also named a BAFTA Breakthrough Brit.

Early life

Windsor was discovered by the writer and director of BAFTA-winning The Unloved , Samantha Morton, in a local drama school and casting agency, Rama Young Actors. [1] Windsor attended the Nottingham Actors Studio, a not-for-profit CIC organisation, and the Television Workshop, [2] and has signed a contract with London-based talent agency, the Artists Partnership. [3] [4]

Career

Windsor's first professional acting role was in 2009 as Lucy Manvers in the television movie The Unloved at age 11. [5] The Times described her character as "played with an unsettling stillness". [1] She played Margaret's daughter in the 2010 film Oranges and Sunshine .

In 2017, she played Holly Winshaw in the BBC miniseries Three Girls , [6] which was based on the Rochdale child sex abuse ring, and for which she won the 2018 BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress. [6]

In 2019, she played Angie in The Runaways .

Recognition

In 2017, Windsor was named as a BAFTA Breakthrough Brit, one of the 20 members from the film, television and gaming industries. [7]

<i>The Unloved</i> 2009 television film

The Unloved is a British television film starring Molly Windsor, Robert Carlyle, Susan Lynch and Lauren Socha. It is about an eleven-year-old girl called Lucy (Windsor) growing up in a children's home in the UK's care system, and shown through her perspective. It is the directorial debut of Golden Globe Award-winning and two-time Academy Award-nominated actress Samantha Morton. The story is semi-autobiographical, Morton wrote and produced the film in collaboration with screenwriter Tony Grisoni.

Three Girls is a three-part British television drama series written by Nicole Taylor and directed by Philippa Lowthorpe. It was broadcast on three consecutive nights between 16 and 18 May 2017 on BBC One. A co-production between BBC Studios and Studio Lambert, the series is a dramatised version of the events surrounding the Rochdale child sex abuse ring, and describes how the authorities failed to investigate allegations of rape because the victims were perceived as unreliable witnesses, and the local authorities didn’t investigate through fear of being accused of racism because of the ethnicity of the perpetrators.
