Monachoptilas is a genus of moths belonging to the family Tineidae. [1]
A genus is a taxonomic rank used in the biological classification of living and fossil organisms, as well as viruses, in biology. In the hierarchy of biological classification, genus comes above species and below family. In binomial nomenclature, the genus name forms the first part of the binomial species name for each species within the genus.
Moths comprise a group of insects related to butterflies, belonging to the order Lepidoptera. Most lepidopterans are moths, and there are thought to be approximately 160,000 species of moth, many of which have yet to be described. Most species of moth are nocturnal, but there are also crepuscular and diurnal species.
Family is one of the eight major hierarchical taxonomic ranks in Linnaean taxonomy; it is classified between order and genus. A family may be divided into subfamilies, which are intermediate ranks between the ranks of family and genus. The official family names are Latin in origin; however, popular names are often used: for example, walnut trees and hickory trees belong to the family Juglandaceae, but that family is commonly referred to as being the "walnut family".
The Lecithoceridae, or long-horned moths, are a family of small moths described by Simon Le Marchand in 1947. Although lecithocerids are found throughout the world, the great majority are found in the Indomalaya ecozone and the southern part of the Palaearctic ecozone.
Dichomeris is a genus of moths, in the family Gelechiidae, described by Jacob Hübner in 1818.
Polyhymno is a genus of moth in the family Gelechiidae.
Lamprosema is a genus of moths of the family Crambidae described by Jacob Hübner in 1823.
Syllepte is a genus of moths of the family Crambidae.
Lecithocera is a genus of moths in the lecithocerid subfamily Lecithocerinae.
Ethmia is a large genus of small moths. It is the type genus of the gelechioid family Ethmiidae, which is sometimes included in Elachistidae or Oecophoridae as subfamily.
Tiquadra is a genus of moths belonging to the family Tineidae.
Amphixystis is a genus of moths belonging to the family Tineidae. The family was first described by Edward Meyrick in 1901.
Wegneria is a genus of moths belonging to the family Tineidae.
Stathmopoda is a genus of moths of the subfamily Stathmopodinae in the Oecophoridae family. Note that the phylogeny and systematics of gelechoid moths are still not fully resolved.
Xyloryctidae is a family of moths contained within the superfamily Gelechioidea described by Edward Meyrick in 1890. Most genera are found in the Indo-Australian region. While many of these moths are tiny, some members of the family grow to a wingspan of up to 66 mm, making them giants among the micromoths.
Herbulotiana is a genus of moths of the family Depressariidae from Madagascar.
Musotiminae is a subfamily of the lepidopteran family Crambidae. It was described by Edward Meyrick in 1884
Odites is a genus of moths in the family Depressariidae. Most species of this genus are found in Asia and in Africa.
The Stenomatinae are a subfamily of small moths in the family Depressariidae.
