As of the census [5] of 2000, there were 1,930 people, 796 households, and 580 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 343.1 inhabitants per square mile (132.5/km2). There were 862 housing units at an average density of 153.3 per square mile (59.2/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 84.61% White, 14.77% African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.47% from two or more races. 1.19% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 796 households, out of which 28.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.5% were married couples living together, 16.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.1% were non-families. 24.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.84.
