Monica Goermann (born September 1, 1964) is a Canadian former gymnast. She is also the owner, artistic director, and choreographer of Monica's Danz Gym. [1] She was named to the 1980 Canadian Olympic team, however the team did not compete due to Canada's decision to boycott the Olympics in Moscow. [2] [3]

Personal life

Goermann was born on September 1, 1964, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she attended Dakota Collegiate. [4] Her parents Elfriede and Wolfgang Goermann were gymnastics coaches who founded the Winnipeg Gymnastics Center in 1997. [5]

Goermann has a daughter who is also a competitive gymnast. [6]

Career

From 1977 to 1983 Monica was a member of the Canadian National Gymnastics Team and competed all over the world, from Japan to Russia. Her signature grace & artistic flair was widely known; Monica is a five-time medalist at the Pan American Games. Goermann won the all around title at the Pan American Games in 1979. [7] In 1991, Goermann was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame. [6]

Monica's Danz Gym was established in 1993 after her successful career as a coach and choreographer for the Guatemalan National Team.

Widely regarded as the most powerful tumbler of her generation by critics and fellow competitors alike, the gymnast had two eponymous skills added on the FIG code of points after being the first woman to compete them at international championships. Dos Santos I, an F rated element, and Dos Santos II, an H rated element on the 2017–2020 COP.

Elfi Schlegel is a sportscaster for NBC Sports and a former college and national champion gymnast from Canada. She is generally regarded as a top 50 Canadian gymnast of all time, and maybe even the 3rd best of the late 70s behind Monica Goermann and the late Sherry Hawco.

Larisa Andreea Iordache is a former Romanian artistic gymnast. She represented Romania at the 2012 Olympic Games, winning a bronze medal with the team, and at the 2020 Olympic Games.

Elsabeth Ann "Ellie" Black is a Canadian artistic gymnast. She is a three-time Olympian, having represented her country at the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Olympic Games. She is the 2017 World all-around silver medalist, making her the first Canadian gymnast to win a world all-around medal. Black is also the 2018 Commonwealth Games all-around champion, a two time Pan American Games all-around champion, and a six-time Canadian national all-around champion. At the 2016 Olympic Games, Black finished 5th in the individual all-around. At the 2020 Olympic Games, Black placed 4th in the balance beam final, the highest placement in the Olympics for a Canadian gymnast.

MyKayla Brooke Skinner Harmer is an American former artistic gymnast. She was the 2020 Olympic vault silver medalist and was an alternate for the 2016 Olympic team. Skinner competed at the 2014 World Championships where she contributed to the U.S. team's gold medal, also winning an individual bronze medal on vault. She won 11 total medals at the USA National Championships during her senior career. She also competed for the University of Utah's gymnastics team and was a two-time NCAA champion. In 2021, she competed in the Tokyo Olympics as an individual gymnast and won a silver medal on vault.

Megan Roberts is a senior elite Canadian artistic gymnast and a member of the Canada National team. She trains at East York Gymnastics, coached by Lawson Hamer and Lisa Cowan.

Rebeca Andrade Brazilian artistic gymnast

Rebeca Rodrigues de Andrade is a Brazilian artistic gymnast. She is the 2020 Olympic and 2021 World champion on the vault. Andrade is the first Brazilian female gymnast to medal at an Olympic Games, and she is only the second Brazilian woman to win a gold medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She is also the 2020 Olympic silver medalist and the 2021 Pan American champion in the all-around, and she won a silver medal on the uneven bars at the 2021 World Championships. She was a member of the teams that won gold at the 2021 Pan American Championships and silver at the 2018 Pan American Championships. She has also won a total of six gold medals on the FIG World Cup circuit.

Nina Derwael is a Belgian artistic gymnast. She is the 2020 Olympic champion, a two-time World champion, and a two-time European champion on the uneven bars. She is the 2019 European Games champion on the balance beam, as well as a two-time Belgian national all-around champion.

The Pan American Gymnastics Union organizes Pan American Gymnastics Championships in different disciplines of gymnastics: men's and women's artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, acrobatic gymnastics, trampoline and tumbling, as well as aerobic gymnastics. The Pan American Gymnastics Championships are considered by the International Gymnastics Federation to be the official continental championships for the Americas. Shallon Jade Olsen is a Canadian artistic gymnast. She is the 2018 World silver medalist and 2018 Commonwealth Games champion on vault. She is also the 2018 Commonwealth Games floor exercise bronze medalist and the 2019 Pan American Games vault bronze medalist. She was a member of the Canadian team that won the gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the silver medal at the 2019 Pan American Games. She is also the 2016 Pacific Rim vault champion, team silver medalist, and floor exercise bronze medalist. She represented Canada at the 2016 Olympics where she was the youngest member of the Canadian Olympic team and at the 2020 Olympic Games. Additionally, she currently competes for the University of Alabama gymnastics team, and she helped the Crimson Tide win the 2021 SEC Championships.

Brooklyn Moors Canadian artistic gymnast

Brooklyn Chloe Moors is a Canadian artistic gymnast who competed at the 2020 Olympic Games. She has also represented Canada at the 2017, 2018, and 2019 World Championships. At the 2017 World Championships, she became the first Canadian to win the Longines Prize for Elegance. She is the 2019 Pan American Games champion on the floor exercise and the silver medalist with the team. She is also the 2017 Pan American champion on the floor exercise. She will begin competing for the UCLA Bruins during the 2021-22 season.

Anne-Marie "Ana" Padurariu is a Canadian artistic gymnast and the 2018 World Championships silver medalist on balance beam.

Emma Spence Canadian artistic gymnast

Emma Spence is a Canadian artistic gymnast. She was a member of the bronze medal winning team at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Individually she is the 2018 Youth Olympic bronze medallist on vault as well as the 2022 Commonwealth Games all-around and balance beam bronze medalist.

Ava Elizabeth Stewart is an American-born Canadian artistic gymnast. She represented Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics and is the 2021 Canadian National Champion on the uneven bars and the all-around silver medalist.

Luciana Alvarado Reid is a Costa Rican artistic gymnast who represented her country at the 2019 World Championships and the 2019 Pan American Games. She took the silver medal in the all-around at the 2021 Pan American Championships, earning a continental berth for the 2020 Summer Olympics, and also became Pan American champion on the balance beam. She is the first Costa Rican gymnast to qualify to an Olympic Games.

Rianna Leigh Mizzen is an Australian former artistic gymnast. She was a member of the teams that won bronze medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the 2016 Pacific Rim Championships. She is the 2016 Australian all-around champion and a three-time Australian champion on the uneven bars.
