The Movie Artists Association (MAA) is a trade union that represents over 900 principal and background performers working in Telugu cinema. It was started on 4 October 1993 by Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Krishnam Raju, Krishna, Murali Mohan and other senior artists. Chiranjeevi was the maiden president of the MAA. [2] [3] [4]
The stated objectives of the MAA include resolving issues related to artists, arbitration of disputes between producers and artists, and implementing measures related to the welfare of its members. In its early days, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Krishnam Raju, Krishna, Murali Mohan acted as advisors. [5] Before the full-fledged formation of the MAA, its functions were operated from the residence of Murali Mohan for a few months. [6]
As of April 2024, the MAA is currently administered from the Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce Building located at Film Nagar, Hyderabad, Telangana, and the current president is Vishnu Manchu.
The Telugu film industry has a 30-year history [7] associated with the welfare of its artists. [8] The Movie Artists Association was established in 1993, [9] with 100 members, which will increase to 1000 by 2024. [10]
Movie Artists Association, was formed with the objective of providing support and welfare to the artists and technicians working in the film industry. It was founded with the goal of addressing issues such as payment disputes, welfare, and representation of the artists in the industry. [11] The MAA's elections in October 2021 drew attention due to various controversies surrounding it. Vishnu Manchu was elected the president in the elections. He and his team again won the April 2024 elections.
On 23 March 2024, MAA President Vishnu Manchu hosted an event at Park Hyatt Hyderabad, marking 90 years of Telugu cinema. The event, 'Navatīhi Utsavam', highlighted Telugu cinema's global impact and Indo-Malaysian relations. Notable attendees included MAA President Vishnu Manchu, Vice President Madala Ravi, Treasurer Siva Balaji, Advisor Datuk P Kamalanathan, and Razaidi Abdul Rahim from Tourism Malaysia, emphasizing the event's significance for both industries. [12] Scheduled for July 2024 in Malaysia, the event aims to raise funds for MAA's charitable causes. [13]
The governing body of the association is responsible for overseeing its activities and serving its members. It holds office for a term of two years. It comprises several members, including a president, two vice presidents, a general secretary, a joint secretary, a treasurer, and other executive committee members. [14] The president is the head of the governing body and acts as its spokesperson, while the vice presidents support the president in carrying out their duties. The general secretary oversees the administrative tasks of the association, while the joint secretary assists them. The treasurer manages the association's finances and ensures its financial stability. [15]
To become a member of the MAA Association, an actor must have acted in more than five films. As of 2021 [update] , the association boasts over 900 active members. [16]

Manchu Bhakthavatsalam Naidu, credited and also known as Mohan Babu, is an Indian actor and film producer known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema. An alumnus of the Madras Film Institute, Mohan Babu has acted in more than 500 films in lead, supporting and a variety of roles.
Maganti Murali Mohan is an Indian actor, producer, politician, and business executive from Telugu cinema. In 1973, Murali Mohan debuted in Jagame Maya, produced by Atluri Poornachandra Rao. He gained recognition with the 1974 film Tirupati, directed by Dasari Narayana Rao. He has acted in over 350 feature films. He has served in various positions in the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and the Andhra Pradesh Film Development Corporation. He was the Honorary President of the Telugu Movie Artists Association until the elections in 2015.
Manchu Vishnu Vardhan Babu is an Indian actor and film producer known for his works in Telugu cinema and television. Manchu had a brief stint as a child artist with the 1985 film Ragile Gundelu. Years later, he starred in the 2003 Telugu action film Vishnu, for which he won the Filmfare Best Male Debut. He is currently serving as the president of the Movie Artists Association since 2021.
Bachimanchi Venkata Subrahmanyam Ravi, better known as B. V. S. Ravi, is an Indian screenwriter, director, actor and producer who works in Telugu cinema.
Manchu Manoj Kumar is an Indian actor who works in Telugu films. He first appeared at the age of ten as a child artist in Major Chandrakanth. He made his film debut in a leading role with Donga Dongadi in 2004. He received the state Nandi Special Jury Award for his performance in box-office success Bindaas (2010). He also starred in Vedam (2010), Potugadu (2013), and Pandavulu Pandavulu Thummeda (2014).
Game is a 2006 Telugu-language slice-of-life drama film directed by Ramprasad G. It stars Mohan Babu and Vishnu Manchu in lead roles with Shobana, Parvati Melton, Sumalatha and Giri Babu in supporting roles. The film's background score and soundtrack were composed by music composer, Joshua Sridhar. The soundtrack for the movie was released on 27 July 2006. The movie is based on Hindi movie Taxi No. 9211 (2006), which itself is based on the Hollywood movie Changing Lanes. Game received negative reviews and failed at the box office. The film marked Shobana's return to Telugu films almost after a decade and eventually, this film ended up being her last Telugu film, until the release of Kalki 2898 AD in 2024.
Pally Babu Mohan commonly known as Babu Mohan is an Indian actor and politician formerly from the Bharatiya Janata Party. He prominently works in Telugu films as a comedian and is a former Minister for Labour in Andhra Pradesh. He won Nandi Award for Best Male Comedian for his role in Mamagaru.
Denikaina Ready (transl. Ready for anything) is a 2012 Indian Telugu-language action comedy film directed by G. Nageswara Reddy and produced by Mohan Babu. The film features Vishnu Manchu and Hansika Motwani in the lead roles. The film is a remake of the Malayalam film Udayapuram Sulthan.
Pandavulu Pandavulu Tummeda is a 2014 Indian Telugu-language comedy drama film directed by Sriwass and featuring an ensemble cast composed of Mohan Babu, Manchu Vishnu, Manchu Manoj, Raveena Tandon, Hansika Motwani, Pranitha Subhash, Varun Sandesh, and Tanish. Manchu Vishnu and Manchu Manoj are jointly producing the film on their respective banners, 24 Frames Factory and Sri Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures. Kona Venkat, Gopimohan and BVS Ravi wrote the film's screenplay with Palani Kumar handling cinematography.

Rowdy is a 2014 Indian Telugu-language action drama film written and directed by Ram Gopal Varma. The principal photography commenced on 26 December 2013 and ended on 21 February 2014 in 30 working days. It was dubbed into Hindi by the same name.
