According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 62.1 square miles (160.9 km2), of which 61.8 square miles (160.2 km2) is land and 0.3 square mile (0.7 km2) (0.43%) is water.
As of the census [2] of 2000, there were 275 people, 116 households, and 77 families residing in the town. The population density was 4.4 people per square mile (1.7/km2). There were 162 housing units at an average density of 2.6 per square mile (1.0/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.18% White, 0.73% from other races, and 1.09% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.36% of the population.
There were 116 households, out of which 20.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.6% were married couples living together, 6.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.8% were non-families. 27.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
