Nabam Tuki (born 7 July 1964) is an Indian politician and a former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. [2] He held this position twice between 2011 and 2016. [3] His first term was from November 2011 to January 2016,while the second term merely lasted 3 days in the month of July 2016. He belongs to the Indian National Congress. He is the last Congress Chief Minister to win re-election as of 2024.
Tuki was born in a Nyishi family on 7 July 1964 in Ompuli,Sagalee sub-division,Papum Pare district. He is married and has two sons and five daughters. [4]
Tuki served as state National Students' Union of India president (1983 to 1986) and was the Chairman of North East NSUI Coordination Committee (1984 to 1986). [4] He was the General Secretary of All India NSUI (1986 to 1988) and Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress President (1988 to 1995). [4] He was first elected to the second legislative assembly in 1995 from Sagalee constituency and served as the deputy agriculture minister in the Gegong Apang ministry. [4] He also served as transport and civil aviation minister in 1998. [4] He was re-elected to the assembly in 1999 from the same constituency and became a cabinet minister with the environment and forest portfolio in the Mukut Mithi ministry. He was re-elected in the 2004 assembly election and 2009 assembly elections and served as the PWD and Urban Development minister under the Gegong Apang and Dorjee Khandu ministries. [4]
He replaced Jarbom Gamlin as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh on 1 November 2011 and continued until January 2016. [3] [5] After a political crisis in 2016,the President's Rule was imposed,ending his tenure as the chief minister. [5] [6] On 13 July 2016,the Supreme Court quashed the Arunachal Pradesh Governor J.P. Rajkhowa's order to advance the Assembly session from 14 January 2016 to 16 December 2015,which resulted in President's rule in Arunachal Pradesh. As a result,Tuki took charge as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh on 13 July 2016. [2] Hours before the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly floor test,he resigned as the Chief Minister on 16 July 2016.
In June 2021,he was investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly awarding contracts to his relatives without following procedures during his tenure as the Minister of Public Works Department and Urban Development in Arunachal Pradesh. In December 2021,a special court at Yupia accepted CBI's closure report of the investigation after the allegations of corruption against Tuki could not be proved. [7] [8] [9]
In August 2022,the Indian National Congress appointed Tuki as the chairman of the North East Congress Coordination Committee. [10]

Wanglat as president,Vice President and General Secretary of the party. Tomo Riba resigned from PK Thungon government of Congress Party and joined PPA as Vice President of the Party. Currently,Kamen Ringu is the chairman of the party. They were in power in Arunachal until all of their MLAs defected back to Indian National Congress.
Gegong Apang is an Indian politician from Arunachal Pradesh. He served as the 3rd Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh from 18 January 1980 to 19 January 1999 and again from August 2003 to April 2007. He is a member of the Janata Dal (Secular) and was a member of the Indian National Congress before 2016. Apang is the Arunachal Pradesh's longest serving Chief Minister and also the fourth longest serving Chief Minister of an Indian state after Pawan Kumar Chamling of Sikkim,Jyoti Basu of West Bengal and Naveen Patnaik of Odisha.
The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly election of 2009 took place in October 2009,concurrently with the assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana. The elections were held in the state for all 60 Assembly seats on 2009-10-13. The results were declared on 2009-10-22. Kalikho Pul was an Indian politician and former Chief Minister of the north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh for a brief time in 2016. He was elected five times from the Hayuliang Vidhan Sabha constituency representing the Indian National Congress. With the support of a few elected members of Congress and the opposing Bharatiya Janata Party,he took Chief Ministership of Arunachal Pradesh. However,the Supreme Court of India ruled against this appointment on various grounds. On 9 August 2016,Pul allegedly committed suicide by hanging at his official residence in Itanagar;Pul's supporters protested in Itanagar demanding an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Starting April 2015,the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh underwent a political crisis. The Indian National Congress party in the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly was divided between supporters of the serving Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and supporters of Kalikho Pul. In 2016,the President's rule was imposed ending Tuki's tenure as the chief minister. In February 2016,Kalikho Pul became the Chief Minister when 14 disqualified MLAs were reinstated by the Supreme Court. On 13 July 2016,the Supreme Court quashed the Arunachal Pradesh Governor J.P. Rajkhowa’s order to advance the Assembly session from 14 January 2016 to 16 December 2015,which resulted in President's rule in Arunachal Pradesh. As a result,Tuki was restored as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh on 13 July 2016. But hours before proving majority,he resigned as the Chief Minister on 16 July 2016. He was succeeded by Pema Khandu,who in September 2016 left the INC and joined People's Party of Arunachal along with majority MLAs. He further joined BJP in December 2016 along with majority MLAs.
