The United States' National Reconnaissance Operations Center (NROC) is the focal point for the National Reconnaissance Office's current operations and for time-sensitive space-borne intelligence reporting for the United States Intelligence Community (USIC). The NROC was created in response to the September 11th terrorist attacks. [1]
NROC serves as a back-up to the Joint Space Operations Center (JSpOC), located at Vandenberg AFB, California. [2] New York's 222d Command and Control Squadron (222 CACS) provides personnel augmentation to NROC. [3]
Air Force Space Command (AFSPC) was a major command of the United States Air Force from September 1982 to December 2019. On 20 December 2019, concurrent with the signing of the National Defense Authorization Act for 2020, it was re-designated as the United States Space Force to stand up as a new sixth service branch of the United States Armed Forces responsible for space warfare.
