Needle Point is a mountain summit located in Union County, Oregon, US. [4]

Description

Needle Point is located in the Wallowa Mountains and is set within the Eagle Cap Wilderness, on land managed by Wallowa–Whitman National Forest. [2] The remote 9,018-foot elevation (2,749 m) peak ranks as the 50th-highest mountain in Oregon. [3] The peak is situated 3.5 miles southwest of line parent Eagle Cap. [2] Precipitation runoff from the mountain drains north to Minam River via Pop Creek, and south into headwaters of Eagle Creek. Topographic relief is significant as the summit rises 2,600 feet (790 meters) above Eagle Creek in one mile. This landform's toponym has been officially adopted by the United States Board on Geographic Names. [4]

Climate

Based on the Köppen climate classification, Needle Point is located in a subarctic climate zone characterized by long, usually very cold winters, and mild summers. [5] Winter temperatures can drop below −10 °F with wind chill factors below −20 °F. Most precipitation in the area is caused by orographic lift. Thunderstorms are common in the summer.

It is part of the San Juan Mountains which are a subset of the Rocky Mountains, and is situated west of the Continental Divide. Courthouse Mountain is a 12,152-foot-elevation (3,704 meter) mountain summit located on the shared boundary of Hinsdale County with Ouray County, in southwest Colorado, United States. It is situated 10.5 miles east of the community of Ridgway, and south of Owl Creek Pass, in the Uncompahgre Wilderness, on land managed by Uncompahgre National Forest. It is part of the San Juan Mountains which are a subset of the Rocky Mountains, and is situated west of the Continental Divide. Red Crow Mountain is a 7,891-foot-elevation mountain summit located in Glacier National Park in the U.S. state of Montana. The summit is set on the border shared by Flathead County and Glacier County. It is situated on the Continental Divide so precipitation runoff from the east side of the mountain drains into Railroad Creek which is part of the Two Medicine River watershed, and the west side drains to Ole Creek, which is a tributary of Middle Fork Flathead River. Clyde Peak is an 8,610-foot-elevation mountain summit located in Glacier National Park in the U.S. state of Montana. The mountain straddles the border shared by Flathead County and Glacier County. It is situated on the Continental Divide so precipitation runoff from the west side of the mountain drains into Thompson Creek which is part of the Middle Fork Flathead River watershed, and the east side drains into headwaters of Red Eagle Creek, which flows to Red Eagle Lake, thence Saint Mary Lake. It is set in the Lewis Range, and the nearest higher neighbor is Mount Logan 1.44 mile to the northwest.
