Grundy County is a county in the U.S. state of Illinois. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 52,533. Its county seat is Morris.
Mazon is a village in Mazon Township, Grundy County, Illinois, United States. The name derives from the Potawatomi word for "nettles" (mzan). The population was 1,015 at the 2010 census. The center of population of Illinois is located in Mazon. Illinois' State Fossil, the unique and bizarre Tully Monster was first found in nearby Mazon Creek. Mazon was formerly served by the Santa Fe railway at the Mazon Depot. It was established in 1876.
The 16th congressional district of Illinois is represented by Republican Darin LaHood. Prominent past representatives from the 16th district have included Everett Dirksen, who went on to become the Republican leader in the United States Senate; John B. Anderson, who became the 3rd highest ranking Republican in the House and went on to run as a major independent candidate in the 1980 Presidential election; and Lynn Martin, who later served as United States Secretary of Labor.
Gebhard Woods State Park is an Illinois state park on 30 acres (12 ha) in Grundy County, Illinois, United States. Originally was owned by Mrs. William Gebhard, but was bought by the Grundy County Rod & Gun Club in 1934. After paying the $1,500.00, the Rod and Gun club donated the land to Illinois to create the Gebhard Woods State Park.
William G. Stratton State Park is an Illinois state park in Morris, Grundy County, Illinois, United States. It is named after Illinois Governor William Stratton, and was developed in 1959 to provide public boating access to the Illinois River. It features motorboat and jet-ski landing areas, and is bounded by the Illinois and Michigan Canal State Trail to the north and the Illinois River to the south.
