Neven (stylised as NEVEN) is Japanese dance and hip-hop group M-Flo's seventh original studio album, released on March 13, 2013, one year after their revival album, Square One . [1] It is their second album to not publicly announce the featured vocalists on the CD.
On December 19, 2012, M-Flo released a mix album, M-Flo DJ Mix: Bon! Enkai, featuring the set they would perform on December 21, 2012, at their second annual Bonenkai DJ event at Tokyo club Ageha. The mix album featured two new songs, "Tonite," which was performed with Minmi at the event, [2] and "Transformerz (Version 2.0)," a clip of the rearranged version of the Transformers: Prime theme song.
Taku Takahashi became the musical director for the TV drama Biblia Koshodō no Jiken Techō , which starred Ayame Goriki and Akira. Takahashi wrote the opening theme "Biblorelo" and the main theme "Searching," as well as being the musical supervisor. [3]
In February 2013, Verbal released Featuring-ryoku: anata no kachi wo saidaika suru kiseki no shigotojutsu (フィーチャリング力 あなたの価値を最大化する奇跡の仕事術, "The Power of Featuring: Maximize Your Gains with a Miracle Way to Work"), a business advice book and his first work as an author. [4]
Cream, a band formed of M-Flo collaborators Minami (who began working with Verbal on BoA's "Bump Bump!" (2009) and worked on Square One) and Staxx T (who worked with Teriyaki Boyz) released their debut album Dreamin' on February 27, 2013, which reached #30 on Oricon album charts. [5]
In March 2013, Taku Takahashi released an EDM mix album called EDM WORLD Presented by ☆Taku Takahashi, as well as a Girls Generation non-stop mix album called Best Selection Non-Stop Mix. [6] [7]
The song "Transformerz" was used as the theme song for the second series of Transformers: Prime in Japan, beginning from July 7, 2012. [8] The first single from the album, "Tonite," was released digitally on December 5, 2012, and was featured on the mix album M-Flo DJ Mix: Bon! Enkai.
The song "Chance" was used as the theme song for the drama Return, which was the first drama released for download on UULA, a paid subscription smart phone entertainment application for SoftBank cellphones that began in February 2013. [1] A music video for the song was also released on UULA in March 2013. The video was directed by drama director Masato Harada. [9]
The leading track from the album, "Lover," was released in February 2013, and was their first physically released single since "Love Song" in 2005. The song featured a music video, which was the first to feature the members of M-Flo prominently since 2008's "Love Comes and Goes." It reached number 15 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100. [10] When the song was initially released to iTunes, the vocalist was accidentally labelled on the song, as M-Flo + Miliyah, despite M-Flo's wishes for the vocalist's name not to be published. [11]
M-Flo will hold M-Flo Tour 2013 "Neven" in June and July 2013, a four date Japan tour at Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Tokyo. [12]
Neven was produced a year after M-Flo's previous album, Square One, compared to the five years between Square One and Cosmicolor . In an interview with Vanity Mix, Verbal said that the album took less time because they had already worked out what styles and ideas they had wanted to work with in Square One. Starting on Neven came naturally, and they already had some idea of what they wanted to try next. [13] "Butterfly" and "Chance" were songs written in sessions for Square One, but were re-arranged and included in Neven. [14] "Butterfly" was performed at M-Flo's M-Flo Tour 2012 'Square One' tour in 2012, and a live performance is featured on Neven's DVD.
Taku Takahashi announced on his Twitter that the album was completed on February 4, 2013. [15]
Verbal also felt that he worked together more with Taku Takahashi on the album than on Square One, and that many aspects of Square One showed off each members' solo career more. [13] He also thought that the album had a stronger house feel, instead of Square One's mix of genres, such as drum and bass and hip-hop. [13]
The album's title, Neven, is a portmanteau of "neverland" and "seven" (it being the group's 7th studio album). M-Flo also chose Neven due to the word being a symmetric palindrome, and felt that it was a symbol of cycles. [13] The album features four entirely English tracks: "Yeah!" "No Way," "Das Dance (Like That)" and "Fnky Algorthm," as well as the mostly English track "Butterfly."
The album features six vocalists collaborating with M-Flo, who are not officially announced on the CD, much like on their previous album, Square One. Two collaborators from Square One return: Minami, vocalist of the band Cream, worked on four songs: "Butterfly," "Fnky Algorthm," "One in a Million" and "Yeah!" [16] Matt Cab, who worked on the song "Yesterday," also made an appearance on Neven, on the song "Das Dance (Like That)." [16]
The album also features two songs by musicians who worked with M-Flo during their loves... era (2003—2009): Minmi, who was on "Lotta Love" from M-Flo Inside: Works Best II (2006), performs "Tonite," [2] and Miliyah Kato, who was featured on the album track "One Day" from Beat Space Nine (2005), performed the leading single "Lover." [17]
Two new musicians feature on Neven. Singer Unico, who entered the Avex club music talent audition Starz Audition 2008, worked on the song "Journey X." [16] [18] Model Kiko Mizuhara is a featured rapper on the song "No Way," in her musician debut. Mizuhara worked together with Verbal as a Reebok ambassador. After going to karaoke together, Verbal offered to work with Mizuhara. [12]
"Chance" is sung by Taku Takahashi, the first time he has done so since "Love Long and Prosper" in 2007. Originally, another person was meant to sing the vocals on the track, but due to scheduling issues, they used the demo vocals as-is. [9] Verbal said that the hardest part of creating the album was scheduling vocalists to come to their personal studio. [13]

M-Flo is a Japanese hip hop group consisting of Taku Takahashi, Verbal and Lisa.
Michiko Evwana, better known by her stage name Minmi, is a Japanese hip-hop and reggae musician, as well as a singer-songwriter and record producer. She is the first soca artist from Japan. Since 2007, she has been married to Wakadanna (若旦那), a member of Japanese reggae group Shōnan no Kaze.
Beat Space Nine is the fourth studio album released by the Japanese group M-Flo. The record is presented in the metaformat of a spaceliner's in-flight entertainment system, specifically that of "Global Astroliner", constituting a recurring theme in the group's albums. Similarly to their previous works, the majority of the tracks contain guest features—including that of Bennie K, Yoshika, and Emyli.
Verbal is a Japanese rapper, music video director and record producer who debuted in 1998 as a member of the hip hop group M-Flo. He is a third generation Zainichi Korean and a notable representative of Zainichi Korean music in Japan.
Rhythm Zone (RZN) is a record label in the Avex Group that releases urban contemporary Japanese music.
Elizabeth Sakura Narita, better known by her stage name Lisa, is a Japanese singer, songwriter and producer. In 1998, she debuted as a member of the Japanese urban contemporary group M-Flo with Verbal and Taku Takahashi. In 2002, she left the band in order to pursue a solo project and released seven albums as a soloist. In December 2017, she rejoined as a member of M-Flo.
"The Love Bug", stylised as "the Love Bug", is a song recorded by Japanese hip-hop duo M-Flo for their third studio album, Astromantic (2004). It was written, arranged, and produced by Verbal and Taku Takahashi who compose the duo and features South Korean singer BoA as the accompanying vocalist. It was released on March 17, 2004, and was distributed by Rhythm Zone in two physical formats: a standard CD single and a limited edition vinyl. In its bass line, the song samples "Give Me Your Love" (1981) by American jazz vocalist Sylvia Striplin. Following its release, "The Love Bug" peaked at number eight on the Oricon Singles Chart and sold over 56,000 copies.
Taku Takahashi is a Japanese DJ and record producer who debuted in 1997 as a producer of the hip hop group M-Flo. The group rose to prominence in the early 2000s, with hit singles such as "How You Like Me Now?" and "Come Again." Takahashi was also a member of Avex's 20th anniversary dance music project Ravex, and has produced songs for musicians such as Crystal Kay, Ami Suzuki and Rie Fu, and remixes for Hikaru Utada and Ayumi Hamasaki. He formed the record labels Tachytelic Records and TCY Recording.
M-Flo Inside: Works Best II is a compilation album released on July 26, 2006, by the Japanese hip-hop group, M-Flo, containing tracks by the group and its members since the release of M-Flo Inside in 2004.
Cosmicolor is the fifth studio album by Japanese hip-hop group M-Flo. Two singles preceded the release of the album: "Summer Time Love" featuring Emi Hinouchi & Ryohei was released on June 28, 2006, and "Love Song" featuring Bonnie Pink was released on November 8, 2006. The full album was made available via Rhythm Zone on March 28, 2007.

It was released on March 16, 2011, one and a half years after M-Flo's 10th anniversary greatest hits album, MF10: 10th Anniversary Best. Due to the effects of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami which occurred five days beforehand, promotions for the album were cancelled, including a music video for the song "Black Out."
CK5 is a compilation album by Japanese contemporary R&B singer Crystal Kay, released on June 30, 2004. It commemorates the five years since her debut as a musician in 1999. On the same day, CK 99—04 Music Clips, a video album compiling her music videos was released.
"Believe in Love" is a song by Japanese dance music project Ravex, featuring South Korean singer BoA. On February 18, 2009, the original version of the song was simultaneously released with an acoustic version of the song, found on BoA's "Eien / Universe / Believe in Love" single.

Disco Volante is the fourth studio album by Japanese-Colombian singer Lisa of the group M-Flo, which released on November 11, 2009. The album was the final chapter in Lisa's "luxury disco" series, which started with the extended plays Ready to Disco (2008) and Got that Fever, (2008) and featured a primarily dance, house and electro-pop sound. The album's leading promotional song, "Falling for You...", saw Lisa reunited with her former bandmate Verbal from M-Flo.
TeddyLoid is a Japanese electronic music producer and DJ. He is known for producing many songs in the soundtrack of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, which charted on Oricon Albums Chart. He is also known for partnering with Daoko in "ME!ME!ME!", an anime music video submitted to the 2014 Japan Animator Expo.
