Assam is a state in northeastern India, south of the eastern Himalayas along the Brahmaputra and Barak River valleys. Assam covers an area of 78,438 km2 (30,285 sq mi). The state is bordered by Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh to the north; Nagaland and Manipur to the east; Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram and Bangladesh to the south; and West Bengal to the west via the Siliguri Corridor, a 22-kilometre-wide (14 mi) strip of land that connects the state to the rest of India. Assamese and Boro are the official languages of Assam, while Bengali is an official language in the three districts of Barak Valley.
Mājuli or Majuli is a river island in the Brahmaputra River, Assam state, India. On September 8, 2016 an additional district was announced by Sarbananda Sonowal, it became the first island to be made a district in India. In the 1790s, the island covered an area of 1,300 km2 (500 sq mi). It had an area of 1,255 square kilometres (485 sq mi) at the beginning of the 20th century, but having lost significantly to erosion it covers 352 square kilometres (136 sq mi) as at 2014. Majuli has shrunk as the river surrounding it has grown.

The Barak Valley is the southernmost region and administrative division of the Indian state of Assam. It is named after the Barak river. The Barak valley consists of three administrative districts of Assam namely - Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi. The main and largest city is Silchar, which seats the headquarter of Cachar district and also serves as administrative divisional office of Barak valley division. The valley is bordered by Mizoram and Tripura to the south, Bangladesh and Meghalaya to the west and Manipur to the east respectively. Once North Cachar Hills was a part of Cachar district which became a subdivision in 1951 and eventually a separate district. On 1 July 1983, Karimganj district was curved out from the eponymous subdivision of Cachar district. In 1989 the subdivision of Hailakandi was upgraded into Hailakandi district.

DD North-East previously known as DD-13 was a state owned TV channel telecasting from Doordarshan Kendra in Guwahati, Agartala, Kohima, Imphal, Jorhat, Silchar, Dibrugarh, Tura, Aizawl, Itanagar and Shillong. On 4 August 2019 a particular 24x7 Doordarshan channel relaunched for Assam state named as DD Assam & it replaced DD North East & the channel was launched by Minister of Information & Broadcasting Shri Prakash Javadekar Ji through virtual event & CEO of Prasar Bharati Mr. Shashi Shekhar Vempati & other top levels of Doordarshan was present on the event. The event was also live telecasted on 11:00 A.M. at DD News DD National DD India DD Bharati & other North East DD channels The programmes are produced at Doordarshan studios in Guwahati, Agartala, Kohima, Imphal, Silchar, Dibrugarh, Tura, Aizawl, Itanagar, Shillong and Gangtok for DD North East.
Jim Ankan Deka is an Indian musician, documentary film maker, photographer and director of Bangalore based organisation and music school Eastern Fare Music Foundation. He is the first person from Assam to open a music institute and a production house in Bangalore, India. He won multiple awards for his song Aawaz - speak up against sexual violence based on the 2012 Delhi gang rape incident.
Himanta Biswa Sarma is an Indian politician and lawyer serving as the 15th and current Chief Minister of Assam since 2021. A former member of the Indian National Congress, Sarma joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on 23 August 2015 and soon was made convenor of NEDA He is a five time Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from Jalukbari, having been elected since 2001.
Prag Cine Awards are presented annually by Prag News & Rengoni, a satellite television channel from Assam. The aim of the award to give support, recognition and inspiration to the Assamese film industry and honour some of the eminent film personalities who have contributed to the cause of Assamese cinema of Assam. Both her directorial ventures, Adajya (1996) and Maj Rati Keteki (2017), set two decades apart, have won a National Award for the Best Feature Film in Assamese. Santwana Bordoloi started her career as an actor. She featured in popular TV series "Tejaal Ghora". This Series was directed by one of the renowned directors Kulada Kumar Bhattacharyya.
