History
Newton Country Day School was founded in 1880 as the Boston Academy of the Sacred Heart. It was the twentieth Sacred Heart School to open in the United States, and is a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, which spans forty-four countries and twenty-one cities in the United States. All Sacred Heart schools are associated with and live by the values of the Society of the Sacred Heart, founded by Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat in 1800 in Paris. Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne established the first foundation of the Society of the Sacred Heart in Missouri in 1818, beginning Sacred Heart education in the Americas. [3]
The school was first located at 5 Chester Square in Boston's South End (now the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Washington Street), and subsequently in four Back Bay brownstones at 260-266 Commonwealth Avenue. In December 1925 it moved to the Loren Towle Estate in Newton, where the architectural firm of Maginnis and Walsh added a chapel and a four-story school wing completed in 1928. In 1960 a gymnasium/auditorium was finished, with further additions of the Sweeney Husson building in 2002 and 2007 a new and greatly enlarged library. In 2016 the Kathleen R. Martin Wellness Center was opened and blessed by Cardinal Seán Patrick O’Malley, OFM Cap., Archbishop of Boston on April 26 of that year. The Martin Center is a 50,000-square-foot building for dance, athletics, fitness, and wellness. Some key features are two full volleyball and basketball courts, squash courts, a fitness space, an erg room, a dance studio, an athletic training room, and a wellness classroom.
As part of the Sacred Heart Network, NCDS follows the five Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools. The five goals help express the intentions and hopes of the Sacred Heart 200-year tradition. The school's culture and identity are based on the vision set forth from the goals. Once a student graduates these goals have hopefully become a form of wisdom and strength from which they can draw on throughout their lives.

Newton is a city in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. It is approximately 7 miles (11 km) west of downtown Boston, and comprises a patchwork of thirteen villages without a city center. It is home to the Charles River, Crystal Lake, and Heartbreak Hill, among other landmarks. It is served by several streets and highways, as well as the Green Line D branch run by the MBTA.
Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart, located at 3601 Burt Street in the Midtown area of Omaha, Nebraska, United States, is a Catholic, college-preparatory high school for girls run by the Religious of the Sacred Heart. The institution previously included a college which was operated from 1908 to 1968. Today Duchesne is home to the high school and a co-ed preschool. While it is located within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Omaha, it is an independent institution.

Sacred Heart Academy is a young women's college preparatory, Roman Catholic high school in Hamden, Connecticut, and part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hartford. It is run by the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, an order of religious sisters founded in Italy by Mother Clelia Merloni. The school is located atop Mt. Sacred Heart, which is the U.S. Provincialate of the sisters. Their team mascot is the Shark. Their brother school is Notre Dame High School West Haven, Connecticut, and their sister school is Cor Jesu Academy in St. Louis, Missouri.
Newton Centre is one of the thirteen villages within the city of Newton in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The main commercial center of Newton Centre is a triangular area surrounding the intersections of Beacon Street, Centre Street, and Langley Road. It is the largest downtown area among all the villages of Newton, and serves as a large upscale shopping destination for the western suburbs of Boston. The Newton City Hall and War Memorial is located at 1000 Commonwealth Avenue, and the Newton Free Library is located at 330 Homer Street in Newton Centre. The Newton Centre station of the MBTA Green Line "D" branch is located on Union Street.

The Regis School of the Sacred Heart is an elementary and middle school for boys. It is located at 7330 Westview Drive in the Spring Branch area of Houston, in the U.S. state of Texas. The boys school serves students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The school has been single gender and non-profit since its founding and is a Houston Area Independent School. Regis is also part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. As at 2022, the school has about 277 students enrolled, and it celebrated its thirtieth anniversary during the 2021–22 school year. Regis, an independent Catholic school, is the only all-boys school of the Archdiocese to have early childhood, elementary, and middle school programs in one school. Regis is the brother school of the Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart.

The Henry I. Harriman House is a historic French château style house at 825 Centre Street in Newton, Massachusetts. Built in 1916 for Henry I. Harriman, it is one of Newton's most elegant 20th-century suburban estate houses. It is now part of the campus of the Boston College Law School. It was known as Putnam House, in honor of benefactor Roger Lowell Putnam, when the campus was that of Newton College of the Sacred Heart. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
