Nick Holz (born March 26, 1984) is an American professional football coach and former player who is the offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Colorado Buffaloes and has previously been a coach with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Stanford Cardinal, Oakland / Las Vegas Raiders UNLV Rebels and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Holz was born on March 26, 1984, in Walnut Creek, California. [1] He grew up in Danville, California, and attended De La Salle High School in Concord, where was he was teammates with Maurice Jones-Drew and Brian Callahan. [2] [3] He played football as a wide receiver at De La Salle and was named the team's Most Inspirational Player as a senior, helping them win the state championship while having 10 receptions for 93 yards. [1]
Holz was a walk-on with the Colorado Buffaloes. [4] He redshirted in 2002, saw no action in 2003, and then became the team's starting holder in 2004, a position he stayed in for his final three years. [1] He became known as the holder for Mason Crosby for three years and was the first three-year holder at Colorado in 20 years. [2] [3] He caught his only three career passes for 29 yards in 2006 and won The Regiment Award for being the Colorado player with the "greatest contribution with the least recognition." [2] [3]
After having graduated from Colorado following the 2006 season, Holz joined the Nebraska Cornhuskers in 2007 as a video intern and offensive quality control coach, having a connection to head coach Bill Callahan, whose son Holz was teammates with in high school. [3] [5] [6] The following year, he became an offensive and operations assistant with the Stanford Cardinal; he also was an assistant quarterbacks coach, working with Andrew Luck. [3] [7]
After four years at Stanford, Holz became an offensive assistant with the Oakland Raiders (later Las Vegas Raiders) of the National Football League (NFL) in 2012. [8] He was able to coach his high school teammate Maurice Jones-Drew in the 2014 season. [4] He was one of only two assistant coaches retained in 2015 and became offensive quality control coach. [9] Holz became assistant wide receivers coach in 2017, returned to offensive quality control coach in 2018, and in 2021 became assistant wide receivers coach a second time. [7]
In 2022, Holz was hired as offensive coordinator of the UNLV Rebels. [10] He returned to the NFL in 2023 when he was hired as passing game coordinator of the Jacksonville Jaguars, replacing Jim Bob Cooter. [11] On February 5, 2024, Holz was hired as offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans. [12]
Michael Rene Mularkey is an American former professional football coach and tight end in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the University of Florida, and was drafted in the ninth round of the 1983 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers and lasted until the final round of cuts. Mularkey then signed with the Minnesota Vikings with whom he played for six seasons before playing another three with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
William E. Callahan is an American football coach who is the offensive line coach for the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League (NFL). He was the head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 2002 and 2003, leading them to Super Bowl XXXVII, where the Raiders lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 48–21. He was also the head coach for the Nebraska Cornhuskers from 2004 to 2007 and interim head coach for the Washington Redskins in 2019. Callahan is considered to be one of the best offensive line coaches in the NFL. His son Brian Callahan is the head coach of the Titans.
Chris Palmer is an American former football coach and college athletics administrator. Palmer served as the head coach for Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL) from 1999 to 2000 and in the same capacity with the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League (UFL) in 2010. He was the head football coach at the University of New Haven from 1986 to 1987 and at Boston University from 1988 to 1989. Palmer has also served as an assistant coach with the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Houston Oilers, Tennessee Titans and the Buffalo Bills of the NFL.
