Noor Effandi bin Ahmad is a Malaysian politician who served as Member of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Telok Mas from May 2018 to November 2021 and Member of the Malacca State Executive Council (EXCO) from May 2018 to March 2020 for the first time and again from March 2020 to his resignation in October 2021. [1]
He is an independent politician and was a member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU),a component party of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition and previously Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition. The 2020 Malaysian political crisis dubbed 'Sheraton Move',which overthrew the PH state administration,which he had followed suit. [2] [3] During his only MLA tenure,he served two times as member of EXCO,from May 2018 to March 2020 for the first time under PH [4] and again from March 2020 to October 2021 for the second time under BN-PN administrations. [5]
On 5 October 2021,BERSATU membership of Noor Effandi was automatically dropped for blatantly stating his loss of support for the BN state government under Chief Minister Sulaiman Md Ali. [6] [7] He and three other MLAs also withdrew support for the Malacca state government, [8] triggering the state assembly dissolution and subsequent snap 2021 Malacca state election. [9] [10] His attempt to return to PH and contest in the state election under its banner was rejected by the coalition,he decided not to defend the seat and remain as an Independent after his twice defections. Adly bin Zahari is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Deputy Minister of Defence in the Unity Government administration under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Minister Mohamad Hasan since December 2022,Member of Parliament (MP) for Alor Gajah since November 2022 and Member of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Bukit Katil since May 2018. He served as the 11th Chief Minister of Melaka from May 2018 to March 2020 and State Leader of the Opposition of Melaka from April 2020 to December 2022. He is a member of the National Trust Party (AMANAH),a component party of the PH coalition and was a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS),a component party of formerly the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition. In AMANAH,he has served as its Vice-President since September 2021 and State Chairman of Melaka since August 2017. He was also the Treasurer-General of AMANAH prior to his promotion to the party vice presidency. He is also the sole Melaka AMANAH MLA.
