The Northern Districts cricket team are one of six New Zealand first-class cricket teams that make up New Zealand Cricket.

Contents

They are based in the northern half of the North Island of New Zealand (excluding Auckland). They compete in the Plunket Shield first-class competition, the Ford Trophy domestic one-day competition and the Super Smash T20 competition as the Northern Knights.

Northern Districts, the last of the six current teams to attain first-class status, joined the Plunket Shield competition in 1956–57. The six district associations that make up Northern Districts are the Northland Cricket Association, Counties Manukau Cricket Association, Waikato Valley Cricket, Hamilton Cricket Association, Bay of Plenty Cricket and Poverty Bay Cricket Association. The Central Stags, formerly known as Central Districts, are a first-class cricket team based in central New Zealand. They are the men's representative side of the Central Districts Cricket Association. They compete in the Plunket Shield first-class competition, The Ford Trophy domestic one-day competition and the Dream11 Super Smash Twenty20 competition. They are one of six teams that make up New Zealand Cricket. They were the fifth of the current teams to compete in the Plunket Shield, which they entered for the first time in the 1950/51 season.

It is one of six teams that compete in senior New Zealand Cricket competitions and has been the second most successful domestic team in New Zealand history. They compete in the Plunket Shield first-class competition and the Ford Trophy one day competition as well as in the Super Smash competition as the Canterbury Kings.

The Wellington Firebirds are one of six New Zealand first-class cricket teams that make up New Zealand Cricket. It is based in Wellington. It competes in the Plunket Shield first class (4-day) competition, the Ford Trophy domestic one day competition and the Super Smash Twenty20 competition.

Warren Charles McSkimming is a former cricketer from New Zealand, who represented the Otago cricket team in the Plunket Shield first-class competition, the Ford Trophy domestic one-day competition and the Burger King Super Smash T20 competition.

Northern Spirit (cricket team)

The Northern Spirit is the women's representative cricket team of the Northern Districts Cricket Association, based in the northern half of New Zealand's North Island. They play their home games at Seddon Park, Hamilton. They compete in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield one-day competition and the Super Smash Twenty20 competition.

The 2011–12 Plunket Shield season was the 86th season of official first class domestic cricket in New Zealand. The season started on 7 November 2011.

Joseph Franklyn Carter is a New Zealand cricketer who plays for Northern Districts. He made his Twenty20 debut for Northern Districts on 4 December 2016 in the 2016–17 Super Smash. Prior to his Twenty20 debut, he was part of New Zealand's squad for the 2012 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Mitch Renwick is a New Zealand cricketer. He made his first-class debut for Central Districts on 20 February 2016 in the 2015–16 Plunket Shield. In June 2018, he was awarded a contract with Otago for the 2018–19 season. He made his List A debut for Otago in the 2018–19 Ford Trophy on 24 October 2018. He made his Twenty20 debut for Otago in the 2018–19 Super Smash on 23 December 2018. In March 2019, in the final round of the 2018–19 Plunket Shield season, he scored his maiden century in first-class cricket.

Zak Gibson is a New Zealand cricketer. He made his first-class debut for Northern Districts on 15 March 2016 in the 2015–16 Plunket Shield. He made his Twenty20 debut for Northern Districts on 4 December 2016 in the 2016–17 Super Smash. He made his List A debut for Northern Districts on 15 January 2017 in the 2016–17 Ford Trophy. In June 2018, he was awarded a contract with Northern Districts for the 2018–19 season.

Nathan Gregory Smith is a New Zealand cricketer. He made his first-class debut for Otago on 30 March 2016 in the 2015–16 Plunket Shield. Willem Ludick is a South African cricketer who has played domestic cricket in New Zealand. In 2020, Ludick had moved to Texas, with an aim of possibly representing the United States. He is the grandson of South African Olympic boxer Willie Ludick.

Matthew Fisher is a New Zealand cricketer. He made his Twenty20 debut on 13 December 2019, for Northern Districts in the 2019–20 Super Smash. Prior to his T20 debut, he was named in New Zealand's squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He made his List A debut on 8 December 2020, for Northern Districts in the 2020–21 Ford Trophy. He made his first-class debut on 27 March 2021, for Northern Districts in the 2020–21 Plunket Shield season.
