Strait Out of the Box is the first box set album by American country music artist George Strait. It contains four albums' worth of music, dating from 1976 to 1995. It mainly consists of Strait's singles, except for a select few that he decided to exclude. They were replaced by his choice of album cuts and several studio outtakes. It also contains his three singles recorded in the 1970s for indie label D Records, one of which, "I Just Can't Go on Dying Like This", was re-recorded for Strait's 2013 album Love Is Everything.

"It's Just a Matter of Time" was previously a Number One hit for Brook Benton in 1959 on the R&B charts, and for Sonny James in 1970 on the country charts. Glen Campbell also had a #7-peaking rendition of the song in 1986.

The album was made to accompany a television series also entitled Wind in the Wire. Two of the album's singles — "Cowboy Boogie" and the title track — entered the Billboard country music charts, peaking at #46 and #65, respectively, making this the first album of Travis's career not to produce any Top 40 hits in the United States. "Cowboy Boogie", however, was a #10 on the RPM Country Tracks charts in Canada.
