Omar Mwinyi Shimbwa (born August 1,1958 in Changamwe,Mombasa,Kenya) is a Kenyan politician and member of the Kenyan Parliament. [1] He was elected as a member (MP) of the National Assembly of Kenya in 2013. [2] He has been re-elected twice during the 2017 and 2022 Kenyan general election. [3] [4] [5]
Shimbwa was elected to represent the Changamwe Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya in the Kenyan general election of 2013. His election was unsuccessfully challenged in court by Philip Munge Ndolo,who garnered the 2nd most votes behind Shimbwa. [6] He was elected under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). He was member of the Departmental Committee on Public Works,Roads &Transport. [7]
He was re-elected in 2017. His election was challenged in court by Mohamed Mahamud Ali,a voter in his constituency. The Election Court upheld the election in a 8 February 2018 ruling. [4] [3] Upon appeal to the High Court of Kenya,a judgment issued on 26 July 2018,upheld his election. [3]
In April 2017,during the ODM party nominations,Shimbwa stormed the polling units with supporters and destroyed voting materials that were to be used for the election. On April 22,2017,he was arrested on grounds of allowing his supporters to assault two police officers at the polling station. [8]
On August 2,2018,after months of legal proceedings,the Magistrate court found him guilty of the charges that he allowed his supporters to destroy election material and also brutally assault two police officers. [9] He was sentenced to four years in prison or an alternative fine option of KSh. 1,000,000/= (~US$10,000). [10] [9] [11]
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is a centre-left political party in Kenya. It is the successor of a grassroots people's movement that was formed during the 2005 Kenyan constitutional referendum campaign. This movement separated in August 2007 into the Orange Democratic Movement Party of Kenya and the Wiper Democratic Movement –Kenya.

He was also accused of killing 15 other Communist Party activists,including the former student leader Chandrashekhar Prasad.

Raila was a candidate in the presidential elections,which resulted in a controversial victory for Mwai Kibaki of the Party of National Unity. The opening of the parliament was fraught with jeers,cheers and brawls between the opposing parties;Mwai Kibaki was greeted by the ODM members with silence and boos,while Raila was greeted by PNU members with accusations of genocide.
Kipkalya Kiprono Kones was a Kenyan politician who served as a minister during the 1990s and was briefly Minister of Roads in 2008. He was a member of the National Assembly of Kenya from 1988 to 2008.
Peter Anyang' Nyong'o is a Kenyan politician and author who is the Governor of Kisumu County. He is a former Secretary-General of Orange Democratic Movement. Professor Nyong'o was the acting party leader from March 11 until late May when Raila Odinga was in the United States and was elected to the National Assembly of Kenya in the December 2007 parliamentary election,representing the Kisumu Rural Constituency. He was the Minister for Medical Services and previously the Minister for Planning &National Development. He previously served as the Senator of Kisumu from 2013 to 2017.
Hassan Ali Joho is a Kenyan politician and the former Governor of Mombasa County affiliated with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). He was also elected to represent the Kisauni Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya during the 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election. On 4 March 2013,during the general election,Joho was elected as the first governor of Mombasa County. In the 2017 General Elections held on 8 August,Joho retained his seat on an ODM ticket. Despite significant politically engineered setbacks,Joho emerged triumphant by winning with 220 576 votes against his closest rival Suleiman Shahbal with 69 322 votes,Suleiman was a member of the Jubilee Party. Joho served as governor of Mombasa until 2022 when he completed the constitutionally allowed two five-year terms. He was succeeded by Abdulswammad Sherrif Nassir the former member of the National Assembly for Mvita Constituency.
Mwalimu Masudi Mwahima was a Kenyan politician. He belonged to the Orange Democratic Movement and was elected to represent the Likoni Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya since the 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election.

Changamwe Constituency is an electoral constituency in Mombasa County,Kenya. It used to be one of the four constituencies in Mombasa district. With the promulgation of the new constitution in August 2010,it saw the creation of two more constituencies in Mombasa County. These are Jomvu and Nyali Constituencies which were curved out from Changamwe and Kisauni Constituencies respectively thereby bringing a total of six constituencies in 2012.
