Participants performed before two judges, Paul Moss and Syafinaz Selamat. Contestants who impressed the judges made it through the next round. Contestants whom the judges were unsure of were placed under the 'maybe' category where they performed again for the judges.
Central Eliminations
The contestants who got through to the next round, the Central Eliminations, were split into groups of guys and girls. The girls went first. The contestants were split to five groups with eight in each group and only four from every group moved on. The same rule applied to the guys and only forty contestants moved on to the next round.
Then, the Top 40 contestants went through two more rounds of elimination called the 'Blind Test' and 'Style/Presentation' Test. In the 'Blind Test', the contestants had to perform behind a screen. In the 'Style/Presentation' round, two guest judges also judged the style & presentation of each contestant. Only 20 contestants moved on to the knock-out stage.
Knock-Out & Second Chance
The Top 20 contestants were then ranked according to their past performances. The contestants who were ranked in the Top 10 got the opportunity to pick one of the Bottom 10 contestants to sing against. No.1 contestant Suki Low Sook Yee was cut after she chose No.11 Alif to sing against and No.3 Zai got cut after she chose to compete against No.20 Ameen.
In The Second Chance Show, the 10 contestants who got cut in the knock-out stage performed for 2 final spots in the Top 12. Suki was Malaysia's choice through viewers' votes and Zai was the judges' pick.
A special episode titled "Circle of 12" was aired. No eliminations were made. The viewers got to know a lot about the top 12 and why should they vote for them. It also showed the contestant in flashbacks scenes.
Finals
In the finals, the Top 12 would have to select a song which they had to sing in front a live audience. In the first top 12 eliminations, two contestants were eliminated. Each show that followed eliminated one contestant each week. The grand finale was held on 22 September 2006 at Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur.
Suki emerged as the winner of the One Million Ringgit while Faizal and Alif came in second and third place respectively. Earlier at the beginning of the grand finale show, hosts Marion Caunter and Awal Ashaari announced that Faizal has the lowest number of votes for that week, but he was given a chance to perform for the grand prize as it was part of the pre-planned non-elimination.
Suki is the winner of the 2006 season. She was a favourite to win, ranking higher than professional singer Dayang Nurfaizah after the tests. She was eliminated during the knock out round but returned by popular vote during the Second Chance stage.

Star Voice of India is an Indian television singing competition that premiered on 18 May 2007 and ended on 24 November 2007 on StarPlus. The show was directed by Gajendra Singh, creator of the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa series, and produced by Urban Brew Studios. It also featured judges that were on the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa series, Aadesh Shrivastava, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, Alka Yagnik, Lalit Pandit and Jatin Pandit. Shaan, who had previously been hosting Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. The winner of the show was Ishmeet Singh Sodhi.
The second season of Airtel Super Singer Junior – Thamizhagathin Chellakuralukkana Thedal premiered on 21 June 2009. The music competition reality TV show was again telecast on Vijay TV, and Bharti Airtel returned to sponsor the show. Episodes were telecast between Monday and Thursday each week at 9:00 pm. Children aged 6 years to 14 showcased their singing talent. The show initially promised that its winner would receive ₹25 lakhs in prize money, which was later changed to a villa in Anugraha Satellite Town valued at ₹25 lakhs by its sponsor, Navashakthi Township and Developers.
One in a Million is Malaysia's first ever reality singing competition to offer a RM 1 million prize to the winner. The second season began on 16 November 2007, resuming to its former timeslot at 9:30pm on 8TV. The season had been marred by a restriction imposed on 8TV against airing live telecasts, as a result of season one's runner-up Faizal Tahir breaching the decency code during 8TV's birthday concert on mid-January 2008. Nevertheless, the show went on and on 29 February 2008, in a Grand Finale which was aired delayed by 30 minutes from Shah Alam, Sabahan Norayu Damit became the overall champion and new owner of RM1,000,000 as funding for a musical career.

The seventh season of Indonesian Idol premiered on RCTI on February 17, 2012. The show aired every Friday at 8:00 pm and Re-run aired every Sunday at 1:00 pm. Daniel Mananta returned as the host, while Anang Hermansyah and Agnes Monica returned as the judges, and musician and hits-maker Ahmad Dhani replaced Erwin Gutawa as the third judges. Fabian Dharmawan became the new Executive Producer. Vokal Plus founder & CEO Indra Aziz, and Irvan Nat, both of them are professional vocal couches, became the new in-house mentors to work with the contestants on a weekly basis. This season followed the same format as American Idol season 11 and used the new title screen & logo with a different font started from Spectacular round.
The twelfth season of Akademi Fantasia, also branded as AF2015, premiered on 3 August 2015 and concluded on 11 October 2015 on the Astro Ria television channel. Zizan Razak and Faizal Ismail continued to host the show once again, while Ramli M.S. returned as a judge and Rozita Che Wan joined the judging panel.
