Orson is an unincorporated community in Harrison County, in the U.S. state of Iowa. [2] Lifelong Orson resident Larry Armstrong is the honorary and locally elected mayor, as well as the owner of the Orson schoolhouse that he attended as a child. [1]
Orson was laid out in 1899 when the railroad was extended to that point. [3] The community was named for Orson Pratt Edmonds, the owner of the land before it was platted by the railroad [4] . A post office was established at Orson in 1900, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1957. [5] [6]
Orson's population in 1925 was 35. [7]
