Osmo Heikki Kristian Soininvaara (born 2 September 1951 in Helsinki) is a Finnish politician and writer,former party leader and cabinet member.
Soininvaara has a licentiate degree in statistics. Before his political career he worked as a statistician.
Soininvaara is married to Anna-Maria Soininvaara and they have three children:Ohto (born 1990),Ilppo (born 1991),and Helmi (born 1997).
Soininvaara was elected in Helsinki city council in 1985 and has served in various positions of trust in the city administration since then. He was elected in Eduskunta in 1987 and again in 1995 and was a member of parliament until 2007,when he chose not to stand for re-election. After a break he was elected to the parliament again in 2011,serving until 2015.
He served as Minister of Social Services in Paavo Lipponen's second cabinet between 14 April 2000 and 19 April 2002. He was the leader of the Finnish Green League party from 2001 to 2005.
Soininvaara is a long-time advocate of a basic income and has published several books and reports on this topic. In Hyvinvointivaltion eloonjäämisoppi,awarded[ by whom? ] as the best economics book of 1994,he proposed a detailed basic income scheme differentiated for household composition. [1]
Urho Kaleva Kekkonen,often referred to by his initials UKK,was a Finnish politician who served as the eighth and longest-serving president of Finland from 1956 to 1982. He also served as prime minister,and held various other cabinet positions. He was the third and most recent president from the Agrarian League/Centre Party. Head of state for nearly 26 years,he dominated Finnish politics for 31 years overall. Holding a large amount of power,he won his later elections with little opposition and has often been classified as an autocrat.
Kyösti Kallio was a Finnish politician who served as the fourth president of Finland from 1937 to 1940. His presidency included leading the country through the Winter War;while he relinquished the post of commander-in-chief to Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim,he played a role as a spiritual leader. After the war,he became both the first President of Finland to resign and the only one to die in office,dying of a heart attack while returning home after submitting his resignation.
Juho Kusti Paasikivi was a Finnish politician who served as the seventh president of Finland from 1946 to 1956. Representing the Finnish Party until its dissolution in 1918 and then the National Coalition Party,he previously served as senator,member of parliament,envoy to Stockholm (1936–1939) and Moscow (1940–1941),and Prime Minister of Finland. He also held several other positions of trust,and was an influential figure in Finnish economics and politics for over fifty years.

Karl-August Fagerholm was a Finnish politician. Fagerholm served as Speaker of Parliament and three times Prime Minister of Finland. Fagerholm became one of the leading politicians of the Social Democrats after the armistice in the Continuation War. As a Scandinavia-oriented Swedish-speaking Finn,he was believed to be more to the taste of the Soviet Union's leadership than his predecessor,VäinöTanner. Fagerholm's postwar career was,however,marked by fierce opposition from both the Soviet Union and the Communist Party of Finland. He narrowly lost the presidential election to Urho Kekkonen in 1956.
Paavo Matti Väyrynen is a Finnish politician who,in his long and eventful political career,has served,among other things,as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1977 to 1982,and again from 1983 to 1987 and from 1991 to 1993. Universal basic income has been debated in the Nordic countries since the 1970s. It has mostly been seen as a radical and utopian proposal and not taken seriously by the big political parties. However,1 January 2017 to 1 January 2019 Finland conducted a basic income pilot which got international attention. There are also some political parties and some politicians and journalists in all Nordic countries who are pushing for the idea of a guaranteed income. The Green parties for example,are generally interested in universal basic income,as well as the Pirate parties.
