The Orthoptera Species File. [2] lists:
Anostostomatidae is a family of insects in the order Orthoptera, widely distributed in the southern hemisphere. It is named Mimnermidae or Henicidae in some taxonomies, and common names include king crickets in South Africa and wētā in New Zealand. Prominent members include the Parktown prawn of South Africa, and the giant wētā of New Zealand. The distribution of this family reflects a common ancestry before the fragmenting of Gondwana.
Bandwings, or band-winged grasshoppers are the subfamily Oedipodinae of grasshoppers classified under the family Acrididae. They have a worldwide distribution and were originally elevated to full family status as the Oedipodidae. Many species primarily inhabit xeric weedy fields, and some are considered to be important locusts:
Schistocerca is a genus of grasshoppers, commonly called bird grasshoppers, many of which swarm as locusts. The best known species is probably the desert locust and trans-Atlantic flight may explain the biogeography of some locust species.
Pardillana exempta is a species of grasshopper in the genus Pardillana of the family Acrididae. It was described by Francis Walker in 1870.
Oedipoda is the type genus of grasshoppers, in the subfamily Oedipodinae. Species include the European "blue-winged grasshopper", Oedipoda caerulescens.
Mecopodinae, the long-legged katydids, are a subfamily of bush crickets found in western South America, sub-Saharan Africa, and Asia. In Asia, the distribution includes India, Indochina, Japan, the Philippines, and Malesia to Papua New Guinea and Australasia, including many Pacific islands.
The Trigonopterygoidea are an insect superfamily in the Orthoptera: Caelifera. Sometimes described as leaf grasshoppers, American species in the Xyronotidae have also been called razor-backed bush-hoppers.
The Cyrtacanthacridinae are a subfamily of Orthoptera: Caelifera in the family Acrididae. They are sometimes referred-to as bird locusts, criquets voyageurs in French-speaking Africa, and Knarrschrecken in German.
The Trigonopterygidae are an insect family in the Orthoptera: Caelifera found in south and south-east Asia.
The Hemiacridinae are a subfamily of Acrididae in the Orthoptera: Caelifera. Species can be found in Africa, and Asia.
Cyrtacanthacris is the type genus of grasshoppers in the subfamily Cyrtacanthacridinae. Species records are distributed in Africa through to Indo-China.
Trilophidia is a genus of grasshoppers in the family Acrididae, subfamily Oedipodinae and the only member of the tribe Trilophidiini. The recorded distribution of species is from Africa and the middle-East through to Japan and Malesia.
The Phalangopsidae are a recently reconstituted family of crickets, based on the type genus PhalangopsisServille, 1831 from South America. Priority for family-group names based on this genus dates from Blanchard's "Phalangopsites".
The Cachoplistinae is a subfamily of crickets of the family Phalangopsidae; they are sometimes called beetle crickets. Species are terrestrial, carnivorous or omnivorous and can be found in: Africa, tropical Asia, Korea and Japan.
Meloimorpha is a genus of cricket in the subfamily Cachoplistinae and tribe Homoeogryllini. The recorded distribution is: India, China, Korea, Japan and Vietnam.
Morabidae is a family of grasshoppers in the order Orthoptera. There are more than 40 genera and 120 described species in Morabidae, found in Australasia.
Gerenia is a genus of grasshoppers in the subfamily Catantopinae and tribe Gereniini. Species can be found in India and Indo-China.
Choroedocus is a genus of grasshoppers in the subfamily Catantopinae, not assigned to any tribe. Species can be found in South Africa, India and Indo-China.
Ornithacris is a genus of grasshoppers in the subfamily Cyrtacanthacridinae. These are large insects, recognisable by their brightly coloured wings when caught: although they are difficult to catch being strong fliers. Species are found throughout Africa, south of the Sahara and may be moderately significant to minor agricultural pests.
Anacridium melanorhodon, known as the Sahelian tree locust, is a species of grasshoppers in the subfamily Cyrtacanthacridinae.
