Painkiller: Hell & Damnation is a first-person shooter video game, both a remake of and a sequel to Painkiller , developed by The Farm 51 and published by Nordic Games. The game was released on October 31, 2012, for Microsoft Windows and for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on June 28, 2013, in Europe after suffering multiple delays. [12] It was released in North America for Xbox 360 through Xbox Live on October 1, 2013, and for PlayStation 3 through the PlayStation Store on November 26, 2013.
Painkiller: Hell & Damnation received a mixed reception among gaming publications.
The player has to get through each level, from start to finish, by slaughtering multitudinous demons. The game is divided into several chapters, each with several levels. Each level presents a new location with various themes and includes castles, monasteries, graveyards, and more. Several classic weapons return, including the Painkiller, the stakethrower, the shotgun, and the electrodriver. New guns are also available such as the Soulcatcher, which shoots saw blades in primary firing mode and sucks the souls out of the enemies with its secondary firing. [13]
Painkiller: Hell & Damnation also adds several multiplayer modes to the series. The entire single-player campaign can be played by two people and the level of difficulty adjusts in accordance with the two players, either through the number of enemies or hit points. [13] In survival mode, up to eight players battle for survival in a limited area of one map. [13] Endless waves of enemy hordes will attack the player or players. Other player vs player based game modes include deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag and duels. [13]
After crushing the forces of Hell and Purgatory in the original titles, Daniel Garner was denied seeing his wife, Catherine. Now, with no faith left, he sat in the cemetery, where his quest once began. Suddenly, Death itself appeared, proposing Daniel a new bargain: reunion with his wife in exchange for 7,000 souls. Daniel reluctantly agrees, receiving the Soulcatcher gun. He is sent to familiar places, battling hordes of demon-spawn, again defeating the formidable Necrogiant, Alastor, and Swamp Thing. An old ally, Eve, reappears during this quest, warning that Death cannot be trusted, but Daniel didn't forget her own betrayal at the end of Painkiller: Battle out of Hell . Daniel avoids her as she tries to persuade him that everything is not as it seems, and the only reason that he is so successful at killing demons and not succumbing to their power is that he is not really dead.
Eventually, Daniel returns to Death, with the Soulcatcher filled. Death, however, is not pleased, as there are only 6,999 souls, and not 7,000, but still advises Daniel to get the final soul: that of Eve. Daniel, disgusted by such a turn of events, spares Eve, infuriating Death. Battle ensues, culminating with Death's defeat and an opening of a strange white portal. By taking the portal, Daniel discovers himself alive, lying in bed, in a hospital. All this time, he was alive, but in a coma, bound by Death to an endless battle in Purgatory. Suddenly, Eve appears, claiming that the souls collected enabled Death to reunite with his brothers, the other Horsemen of Apocalypse: Pestilence, Famine, and War, which are now plotting to invade Earth. Daniel feels that he will be unable to battle the hordes of Hell without the power that he wielded in Purgatory, but Eve comforts him, saying that they are not alone and he will be just a sidekick. A door opens, revealing the demonic visage of Belial (from Painkiller: Overdose) who calls Daniel to stand up and help him fight Death and his Horsemen.
The "regular edition", also known as "totally uncut", was released for PC on October 31, 2012. [14] Windows users could also obtain the regular version through download services such as Steam. [14] Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game were released on June 28, 2013, after suffering multiple release delays.
The "toned down" version was released on the same day as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version. [14] This version came to pass due to the German censors refusing to give it an age rating because it was "deemed too evil", according to Nordic Games. [14]
The "collectors edition" was released on October 31, 2012, initially for the PC version and eventually for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on June 28, 2013. [15] It includes stickers, "postcards from hell", an art book, posters, a ten-track soundtrack CD, a making-of DVD, a special in-game tarot card and an exclusive multiplayer skin. [16]
Some versions of the game include the original Painkiller plus the Battle Out of Hell expansion.
On October 17, 2013, a beta Linux version of the game was made available to Steam customers who had already acquired the Windows version.
For those who planned to buy the game on PC through Steam, they had the option to pre-purchase Painkiller: Hell & Damnation and receive special rewards. [17] Painkiller's pre-purchase reward structure is different from other games. The first reward, immediate access to the beta on Steam, was available to anyone who pre-purchased the game. The second and third rewards were accessed with the help of others who also pre-purchased it. [17] After so many units had been pre-purchased, the second reward, a multiplayer body skin pack was unlocked. The third reward, a free copy of Painkiller: Black Edition, was unlocked when the number of pre-purchased units exceeded a certain number, following a similar reward structure to the second reward. Painkiller: Hell & Damnation has had a mixed reception among gaming publications. The Windows version of the game holds a score of 64/100 on Metacritic while the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions hold a score of 40/100 and 53/100 respectively. [21] [22] [23] The average review score of the Windows version of the game on GameRankings is 67.48% [18] while the average review score of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions is 42% [19] and 59.86% [20] respectively. Many have praised the graphical quality of the game, with GameSpot's Nathan Meunier saying it has had a "great visual makeover". [26] Other positives are the great weapon variety and craziness of the weapons, IGN stated the game has a "great selection of totally over-the-top weaponry". [29] GameZone's David Sanchez gave the PS3 version a 7.5/10, stating "Hell & Damnation is a good FPS that harkens back to an era that was all about shooting sh*t up and not giving a damn. There's little variety, the game sticks closely to a formula that fans of modern shooters won't dig, and at about four hours, it's painfully short." [28]
According to critics, one of the biggest gripes about Painkiller: Hell & Damnation is the enemy AI. IGN called the AI "dumb and often glitchy". [29] GameSpy's Mike Nelson expanded on this saying "the poor AI makes them [bosses] susceptible to getting stuck in the environment". [27] Other reviewers [ who? ] had issues with the short campaign and problems with multiplayer.
Painkiller is a first-person shooter video game developed by Polish game studio People Can Fly and published by DreamCatcher Interactive in April 2004 for Microsoft Windows and ported to Xbox in 2006. The game's single player campaign follows a dead man in Purgatory who is offered a deal to defeat the invading forces of Lucifer's army in exchange for being allowed to enter Heaven. The game was particularly well-received for its multiplayer experience and was featured for two seasons on the Cyberathlete Professional League's World Tour.
Unreal Tournament 3 (UT3) is a first-person arena shooter video game developed by Epic Games and published by Midway Games. Part of the Unreal franchise, it is the fourth game in the Unreal Tournament series, and the eighth and final game overall; its name is in reflection of the game being the first in the franchise to use Unreal Engine 3. It was released on November 19, 2007, for Microsoft Windows, December 10 for the PlayStation 3, and on July 3, 2008, for the Xbox 360. OS X and Linux ports were planned, but they were eventually cancelled. A free-to-play version, entitled Unreal Tournament 3 X, was leaked in late 2022 and cancelled in 2023.

The Orange Box is a video game compilation containing five games developed and published by Valve. Two of the games included, Half-Life 2 and its first stand-alone expansion, Episode One; had previously been released as separate products. Three new games were also included in the compilation: the second stand-alone expansion, Half-Life 2: Episode Two; the puzzle game Portal; and Team Fortress 2, the multiplayer game sequel to Team Fortress Classic. Valve also released a soundtrack containing music from the games within the compilation. A separate product entitled The Black Box was planned, which would have included only the new games, but was later canceled.

Lost Planet 2 is a third-person shooter video game developed and published by Capcom and Beeline Interactive, Inc. The game is the sequel to Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, taking place ten years after the events of the first game, on the same planet. The game was developed for BlackBerry, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. Originally set to be released in early 2010, Capcom delayed the game's consoles release to May 11, 2010 in North America and Europe, May 13 in Australia and May 20 for Japan, while the BlackBerry version was released worldwide on April 28 and the Microsoft Windows version was released in October that year. The title sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide.

It is a direct sequel to Battlefield: Bad Company and is part of the Battlefield game series. It was released worldwide in March 2010. The iOS port was released on the App Store on December 16, 2010. Iron Man 2 is an action-adventure video game loosely based on the 2010 movie of the same name. It was released in Europe on April 30, 2010, and in North America on May 4 for Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, Wii, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Portable. Published by Sega, the game was developed by Sega Studios San Francisco for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Griptonite Games for Nintendo DS, High Voltage Software for Wii and PlayStation Portable, and by Gameloft for iOS and BlackBerry PlayBook. A Microsoft Windows version was planned, but it was cancelled.
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is an action-adventure game developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix's European branch for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Android and iOS. It is part of the Tomb Raider series, but unlike previous games, the game does not carry the Tomb Raider brand and has a heavy emphasis on cooperative gameplay. In multiplayer, players take the role as either Lara Croft or a 2,000-year-old Mayan warrior named Totec. They must work together in order to stop the evil spirit Xolotl and retrieve the Mirror of Smoke. A single-player campaign mode is available that does not include the non-playable character AI following or helping Lara.
Costume Quest is a party-based role-playing video game developed by Double Fine Productions and published by THQ on October 20, 2010. In the game, the player controls a child who is trick-or-treating with their twin on Halloween night when they encounter a monster that kidnaps their sibling. The player must travel around the local neighborhood collecting items for their costume, candy, and fellow children as companions in order to face the leader of the monsters and rescue their sibling. The costume aspects are used in turn-based battle segments, where the player character and companions are transformed into whatever they are dressed as to fight other monsters; the costume aspects are also used for abilities outside of battles.
Outland is a platform game developed by Housemarque and published by Ubisoft. The game combines two-dimensional platforming with a polarity system similar to Treasure's Ikaruga and Silhouette Mirage. Outland was released on April 27, 2011 for Xbox 360. The PlayStation 3 version, which was supposed to be released the day before, was delayed because of the 2011 PlayStation Network outage then later released in June 2011. A Microsoft Windows version was released on September 29, 2014, followed by the Mac OS X version on December 21 of the same year, and the Linux version on February 25, 2015. The game was removed from sale on Steam and the Humble Store in December 2018 but has since been added back to Steam.
Defiance was a science fiction-themed persistent world massively multiplayer online third-person shooter developed by Trion Worlds. Defiance took place on a terraformed Earth several years into the future. It was a tie-in to the Syfy show of the same name. The game was released in April 2013 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It was also released on Steam. The game went free-to-play on June 4, 2014 for PC, August 14, 2014 for PS3 and November 18, 2014 for Xbox 360. Official game servers, community forums, and social media outlets were shut down by owning company Gamigo on April 29, 2021.
Deadpool is an action-adventure video game based on the Marvel Comics antihero of the same name. It was developed by High Moon Studios and published by Activision for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 in June 2013. Written by Daniel Way, the game's story follows Deadpool as he joins forces with Cable and the X-Men in order to thwart Mister Sinister's latest scheme, getting into numerous comedic adventures along the way. Similarly to other media featuring the character, the game includes self-referential humor and numerous fourth wall breaks.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Hearthfire is the second downloadable content add-on for the action role-playing open world video game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The game was developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. The Xbox 360 version of Hearthfire launched on September 4, 2012. It was released on Microsoft Windows via Steam on October 5, 2012. It was released for the PlayStation 3 on February 19, 2013, in North America and February 20, 2013, in Europe.
Deadfall Adventures is an action-adventure video game developed by The Farm 51 and published by Nordic Games. Deadfall Adventures was released on November 15, 2013, for Windows and Xbox 360, and on October 28, 2014, for PlayStation 3 under the name of Deadfall Adventures: Heart of Atlantis. The game is set in the universe of the Allan Quatermain series, created by H. Rider Haggard.
Guilty Gear X2 is a 2D fighting video game developed by Arc System Works, and published by Sammy Studios. It was first released on May 23, 2002 for Japanese arcades, and later ported to the PlayStation 2 for North America in 2003. The game received updated versions for several platforms, each containing various adjustments: Guilty Gear X2 #Reload (2003), Guilty Gear XX Slash (2005), Guilty Gear XX Accent Core (2006), Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus (2008), and Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R (2012).
