Panruti S. Ramachandran (born 10 November 1937) is an Indian politician and former Member of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu.
He served as the party presidium chairman of DMDK till 2013. [1]
Ramachanrdran was born in a village named Puliyurkaattusaagai in Panruti taluk,Cuddalore District. He is the only son of Sankaradevan and Chinnapillai. He did his schooling in St. David High School at Cuddalore Old Town.[ citation needed ]
After SSLC,he joined Annamalai University for his PUC and later graduated in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (honours degree in B.E). Thereafter,he joined the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board as Assistant Engineer at Arni,North Arcot.[ citation needed ]
Ramachandran was the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) student secretary while at Annamalai University. As a secretary,he organised DMK meetings at Arignar Anna would be the prime speaker. Anna was impressed by Ramachandran's government of Tamil Nadu he used to speak as Sampath in DMK public meetings. He named his son as Sampath after his pen name.
He started his political career as a DMK member. He was the Minister for Transport of Tamil Nadu during 1971–77. He later joined Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK). He has won six assembly elections contesting from Panruti constituency. [2]
He was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly from Panruti constituency as a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in 1967,and 1971 elections as an Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in 1977,1980,and 1984 elections and as a Pattali Makkal Katchi candidate in 1991 election. The chairman of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam presidium and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly,Ramachandran on 10 December 2013 announced retirement from active politics. In his letter addressed to DMDK founder-president Vijayakanth,he stated that he had taken the decision as he had been maintaining indifferent health and his doctor had advised him to take rest.[ citation needed ] He resigned from the DMDK and in February 2014 he joined the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party. [9] He blamed the abnormal distance formed between the DMDK and him. After that he spoke in many Constituencies for the AIADMK Victory in 16th Lok Sahba Election. In 2005 he received Periyar Award and in 2013,the Tamil Nadu government honoured him with Arignar Anna Award. [10]
The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam is an Indian regional political party in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is a Dravidian party founded by the former leader of the opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly,Vijayakant,at Madurai on 14 September 2005. The party was led by its founder until 14 December 2023 from its date of founding. From 14 December 2023,the DMDK is led by Vijayakant's wife Premallatha Vijayakant as general secretary of the party. The party served as the main opposition party in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 27 May 2011 to 21 February 2016. The headquarters of the party is located at Jawaharlal Nehru Salai,Koyambedu,Chennai.
The thirteenth legislative assembly election,of Tamil Nadu was held on 8 May 2006. It was held for all 234 constituencies to elect the government in the state for the following five years. The votes were counted three days later on 11 May 2006 and all the results were out by the end of the day. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led (DMK) front won the elections,with the DMK emerging as the single-largest party with 96 seats,and its leader,M Karunanidhi was sworn in as Chief Minister for a fifth and final term. This election marked the first time the state saw a hung assembly with no party gaining a majority of its own. As a result,DMK formed a minority government with its allies,which is the first in the state since the 1952 election. 13th Assembly was instituted due to this election.

Ethirajulu Vajjaravelu or E. V. Velu is an Indian politician who has been serving as the Minister of Public Works,Highways and Minor Ports in the M. K. Stalin ministry of the state of Tamil Nadu since 2021. He formerly served as the Minister for Food in the state under M. Karunanidhi (2006–2011).
The tenth legislative assembly election of Tamil Nadu was held on 15 June 1991. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) –Indian National Congress (INC) alliance won the elections in a landslide and AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa became the chief minister. This was her first term in office. The united strength of AIADMK,the alliance with the Congress,and the wave of public sympathy in the wake of Rajiv Gandhi assassination combined to produce a massive victory for the AIADMK. The DMK could only win 2 seats. This was the worst performance of the DMK since it entered electoral politics in the 1957.
The sixth legislative assembly election of Tamil Nadu was held on 10 June 1977. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) won the election defeating its rival Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). M. G. Ramachandran,the AIADMK founder and a leading Tamil film actor,was sworn in as Chief Minister for the first time. The election was a four-cornered contest between the AIADMK,DMK,the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Janata Party. Earlier in 1972,M.G.R had founded the AIADMK following his expulsion from the DMK after differences arose between him and DMK leader M. Karunanidhi. On 31 January 1976,Karunanidhi's government was dismissed by the central government of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi citing non-co-operation for MISA and President's rule was imposed on the state. Karunanidhi had been at odds with Indira Gandhi over his opposition to Emergency and allied with Janata Party founded by Jayaprakash Narayan. M.G.R remained as Chief Minister until he died in 1987,winning the next two elections held in 1980 and 1984. Due to this feat,M.G.R inadvertently became an example for entry of famous actors to enter politics,with a hope that they too may become Chief minister one day. then Telugu superstar N.T.R followed M.G.R's suit in 1983 and won the Andhra Pradesh general Elections to become the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Since then,no other actor has been able to recreate M.G.R's achievements in electoral Politics.
K. A. Mathiazhagan was an Indian politician and co-founder of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). He served as the Finance Minister,Minister of Food,Revenue and Commercial Taxes in the Tamil Nadu government and Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) defeated All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in Thirumangalam in the first phase and kept the winning momentum in the following general election.

The Fourteenth Legislative Assembly Election was held on 13 April 2011 to elect members from 234 constituencies in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Results were released on 13 May 2011. Two major parties Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) faced the election as coalitions of multiple political parties:DMK front consisted of 8 parties and the AIADMK of 11 parties. Vijayakanth's Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK),which had contested the previous elections independently,allied with the AIADMK coalition. Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam boycotted the election following a disagreement with Jayalalithaa over seat-sharing. The outgoing Karunanidhi government was noted for the construction of new assembly building in Chennai,execution of various developmental projects,and implementation of programmes including free health care for the poor and issuance of a range of freebies such as color television to all. However,these were heavily overshadowed by other major issues such as incessant power cuts in households and industries,excessive sand mining,increasing prices of essential items,2G spectrum case and undue influence of Karunanidhi's extended family in various aspects of Tamil politics and business and even media.
R. Kumaraguru is an Indian politician from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Ulundurpet constituency. He has been elected as an member of legislative assembly for the third consecutive time since 2006 assembly elections.He defeated the Vijayakanth,founder of DMDK party during 2016 assembly elections. He represents the Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party. As an AIADMK candidate in the 2006 elections,he was elected as a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Thirunavalur assembly constituency which was eliminated during the constituency reorganization. Later,2011 to 2016 he contested the Ulundurpet assembly election for the Second time in 2016 and won as a member of the assembly after 2016 to 2021. In this election,he defeated the leader of the opposition party,the leader of the DMDK Party of India,Vijayakanth. And Third time Winner of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in ulundurpet constituency.He later contested the Ulundurpet assembly constituency from 2021 to 2026 on behalf of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam against DMK and lost by a margin of 5,256 votes and 2.17%.
V. N. P. Venkatraman is an Indian politician and was a member of the 14th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Alandur constituency. He represented the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party after defeating Panruti S. Ramachandran in a by-election in 2014. Ramachandran had resigned the seat in December 2013 at the same time that he resigned from the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam.
