Dr. Prof. M. H. Jawahirullah (born 1959) is an Indian politician currently elected as a member of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly 2021 from Papanasam Constituency and a former member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Ramanathapuram constituency. He represents the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi party, [1] of which he is the founding member and present leader. [2] He also the member of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazagham.
Jawahirullah was born in Udangudi Thoothukudi District in Tamil Nadu. He received his bachelor's degree in commerce from the Madras University. He then obtained masters in business administration (MBA) in 1983 and Master of Philosophy in 2000. He worked as a lecturer at Islamiah College,Vaniyambadi. In 2008,he was awarded PhD by the Madras University for his dissertation on "Performance Evaluation and Assessment of Service Quality in Islamic Banks:A Study with special reference to Bank Islam Malaysia". [3] He was a member of SIMI until 1989 and left the organisation due to its involvement in violence.
Jawahirullah has been actively involved in the non-violent struggle for the rights of minorities especially Muslims in India. He calls for coordination of all Muslim groups in India for positive development. [4] His Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazagham (TMMK) organization mobilized hundreds of volunteers to help in rescue work when a tsunami struck the coast of Tamil Nadu in 2004 and it also played an important role in 2007 during negotiations to secure reservations for Muslims in government jobs. It has been praised by a Chief Minister,M. Karunanidhi,and won an award for recruiting the highest number of blood donors in emergencies. It runs 148 free ambulances in Tamil Nadu. [5]
Jawahirullah,representing 25 Islamic trusts,societies and charities,sought a ban on Kamal Haasan's then-unscreened movie Vishwaroopam as "it will affect social harmony" and it gave the impression that "all Muslims are terrorists". The Tamil Nadu state government banned the movie from being screened in the state [6] for a little over a week in 2013 until a compromise was agreed. [7] [8] [9]

Tamil Muslims are Tamils who practise Islam. The community is 6 million in India,primarily in the state of Tamil Nadu where 90% of the Muslim community identified themselves as Tamils. Vishwaroopam is a 2013 Indian action spy film co-written,directed and produced by Kamal Haasan,who also enacts the lead role. The film also stars Rahul Bose,Shekhar Kapur,Pooja Kumar,Andrea Jeremiah,Nassar and Jaideep Ahlawat in supporting roles. The film's script was written by Kamal Hassan,Chakri Toleti and Atul Tiwari. In the film,Nirupama,an ambitious woman studying in the US,marries a coward classical dancer,Viswanathan. On being suspicious of his behaviour,she hires a detective,who reveals his true identity and past.

The 2013 Indian film Vishwaroopam was subjected to several controversial issues. The first of this kind was the title naming issue,where the Hindu Makkal Katchi party demanded the change from its current Sanskrit title to a purely Tamil one. When Kamal Haasan announced a direct-to-home (DTH) premiere of the film,theatre owners demanded a rollback of this plan,as they feared major revenue losses to DTH companies. Threatened by a complete theatre boycott of Vishwaroopam,Haasan agreed to release the film first in theatres. Later,Muslim groups in Tamil Nadu demanded the ban of the film and claimed,that the film would hurt Muslim sentiments. Although the film was cleared by Central Board of Film Certification of India,district collectors in the state of Tamil Nadu gave orders to the theatre owners to not show Vishwaroopam,citing law and order problems,however the film released in other states with greater Muslim populations than in Tamil Nadu. The ban in Tamil Nadu triggered the stop of screenings in neighbouring Indian states as well as a few foreign markets.
Vishwaroopam II,or Vishwaroop II,is a 2018 Indian action spy film written and directed by Kamal Haasan and co-written by Atul Tiwari and Chakri Toleti. It is the sequel to Vishwaroopam (2013) and features Kamal Haasan alongside Rahul Bose,Shekhar Kapur,Pooja Kumar and Andrea Jeremiah,reprising their roles. While the first film was set in the United States,Vishwaroopam II takes place in India. The film was simultaneously shot in Tamil and Hindi.
P. Jainulabideen, also known as PJ is an Islamic scholar,teacher and preacher,primarily in the Tamil language and also co-founder of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazagham in 1995. After the political stand of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam he walked out from TMMK and started an Islamic non-profit organization,Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath. He is one of the Pioneers in the region who advocated that Quran and Sunnah as the sole sources of religious authority and oppose everything introduced in Islam after the earliest times. He has been extremely vocal against Terrorism and Dowry among Islamic Community in Tamil Nadu south India.
The Makkal Needhi Maiam is an Indian regional political party in the state of Tamil Nadu and union territory of Puducherry. The party was founded by Kamal Haasan at Madurai on 21 February 2018. He also unveiled the party flag. The flag is symbolised by six interlocked hands,meant to represent co-operation between the Southern states of India. Their election symbol is a battery torchlight.
The 2018 Kaveri River water sharing protests are a series of ongoing protests on the issue of water sharing problems from the River Kaveri between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka which are two states in India. The Kaveri water dispute has been a major controversial issue between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka over the years and the issue has been raised further with protests have been conducted across the state of Tamil Nadu by several groups including from the large pile of actors and directors who have temporarily stopped working on their projects,films over the Karnataka's sharing the Kaveri water to Tamil Nadu. The delay in establishing a Cauvery Management Board in order to share equal river share award has sparked off protests in Tamil Nadu against the Karnataka state government.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won the election,ending the decade-long reign of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). The DMK's leader M. K. Stalin became the eighth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu,and the 12th Chief Minister since the 1956 reorganization. He replaced Edappadi K. Palaniswami of the AIADMK.
K. S. G. Haja Shareef was an Indian industrialist and politician from Tamil Nadu. Shareef served in the Madras Legislative Assembly and its successor body,the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly,from 1957 to 1967 and from 1980 to 1984. A member of the Indian National Congress,Shareef was the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 1983 until 1984.
