Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, EGH is a Kenyan politician serving as the incumbent governor of Kakamega County and Council of Governors chairperson. He was elected on 4 March 2013 and became the first governor of Kakamega County following promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya in 2010 and subsequently in August 2017, for his second term as the governor. He is, therefore, the pioneer Governor of Kakamega County under the devolved system of governance in Kenya that established 47 counties. Peter Anyang' Nyong'o is a Kenyan politician and author who is also the former Governor of Kisumu County. He is a former Secretary-General of Orange Democratic Movement. Professor Nyong'o was the acting party leader from March 11 until late May when Raila Odinga was in the United States and was elected to the National Assembly of Kenya in the December 2007 parliamentary election, representing the Kisumu Rural Constituency. He was the Minister for Medical Services and previously the Minister for Planning & National Development. He is currently serving as the Governor for Kisumu County after serving as the Senator from 2013 to 2017.

David Musila is a Kenyan politician. Justin Bedan Njoka Muturi is the seventh Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya, in office since 2013. He is the first Speaker to serve following the reestablishment of a bicameral Parliament, as mandated by the 2010 Constitution. On 28 March 2013, Muturi won the speakership after a second round of voting by Members of the National Assembly, beating former speaker Kenneth Marende by a 219–129 margin.
General elections were held in Kenya on 8 August 2017 to elect the President, members of the National Assembly and Senate. They coincided with the 2017 Kenyan local elections which elected Governors and representatives in the devolved governments.
