Peter Mayen Majongdit also known as Peter Mayen is a South Sudanese politician and the former minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management between March 2020 and November 2022. [1] South Sudan president Salva Kiir Mayardit fired him on 16 November 2022 amid rising hunger across the country's flood and conflict-affected areas. [2] [3]

In 2021 Peter, Mayen was accused by the members of public and the civil society activists for allegedly beating and stabbing his wife. This caused removal of his membership of the OPP (Other Political Parties). [5]

A petition was launched by civil rights activists to have him removed from his ministerial position. [6]

Presidential Bid [7]

Peter Mayen Majongdit, a signatory to the South Sudan peace agreement known as the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCISS), [8] and the Leader of Other Political Parties, made a significant move on April 9th, 2023. He declared his candidacy to run in the South Sudan Presidential election. This declaration was accompanied by the Umbrella of Political Parties holding a conference in Yambio, named the "Yambio Declaration. [9] " During this event, Peter Mayen was publicly endorsed as the Umbrella of Political Parties' flag bearer for the upcoming election in December 2024. [10]

The Sudan People's Liberation Movement is a political party in South Sudan. It was initially founded as the political wing of the Sudan People's Liberation Army in 1983. On January 9, 2005 the SPLA, the SPLM and the Government of Sudan signed the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, ending the civil war. SPLM then obtained representation in the Government of Sudan, and was the main constituent of the Government of the then semi-autonomous Southern Sudan. When South Sudan became a sovereign state on 9 July 2011, SPLM became the ruling party of the new republic. SPLM branches in Sudan separated themselves from SPLM, forming the Sudan People's Liberation Movement–North. Further factionalism appeared as a result of the 2013–2014 South Sudanese Civil War, with President Salva Kiir leading the SPLM-Juba and former Vice President Riek Machar leading the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-in-Opposition.

Deng Alor Kuol is a South Sudanese politician. He has served as the minister of East African Community Affairs in President Salva Kiir Mayardit's government. He is a member of the Ngok Dinka ethnic group, and was born in Abyei region, an oil-producing border region between Northern and Southern Sudan.

Dr. Gabriel Changson Chang is a South Sudanese politician. He worked in the Ministry of Wildlife Conservation and Tourism and was the acting Minister of Finance in the Cabinet of South Sudan and the Cabinet of Sudan from March 2007 to July 2007. He was appointed to that position in July 2011 and 2009 respectively. Chang is also the chairman of the FDP South Sudan Federal Democratic Party and interim chairperson of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA). He is considered one of the founding fathers of South Sudan independence.

The South Sudanese Civil War was a multi-sided civil war in South Sudan between forces of the government and opposition forces. In December 2013, President Salva Kiir accused his former deputy Riek Machar and 10 others of attempting a coup d'état. Machar denied trying to start a coup and fled to lead the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM-IO). Fighting broke out between the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) and SPLM-IO, igniting the civil war. Ugandan troops were deployed to fight alongside the South Sudanese government. The United Nations has peacekeepers in the country as part of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

Tambura State was split from Gbudwe State on January 14, 2017. Gbudwe State was located in the Equatoria region. Gbudwe bordered the states of Lol, Maridi, Tambura, and Western Lakes, and also the province of Haut-Uélé in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Haut-Mbomou in the Central African Republic. The state had a population of 364,272 in 2008.

The South Sudan Opposition Alliance is a coalition of political parties and armed groups in South Sudan that opposed the government of President Salva Kiir. It was formed in February 2018 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, by nine groups. In September the alliance acceded to a revised peace deal with the government that also included the main rebel faction, the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-in-Opposition, but some of the member groups disagreed with the decision and split from the alliance. The pro-deal SSOA has experienced continued tension between its members, as well as with the government.

Paulino Lukudu Obede, is a South Sudanese politician. He is currently the Deputy Governor for Central Equatoria State in the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (RTGoNU) as of 2024. Paulino is one of the youngest South Sudanese to be appointed to a gubernatorial post at 34. Lukudu has previously served as Minister for Information for Central Equatoria, a member of the South Sudan National Dialogue, and a member of the Transitional National Legislature which is equivalent to Senate in other countries. He served as an MP among the appointees of the Other Political Parties on 17 September 2021, and later in 2023 became the Chief Whip of the Other Political Parties (OPP). Chief Whip is the Chairperson of the Party's Parliamentary Caucus. until his elevation to the position of Deputy Governor.
