Piper Marten Ritter (born April 7, 1983) is an American, former collegiate softball pitcher and current head coach at Minnesota. [1] Ritter played college softball at Minnesota from 2001 to 2004, and was named a four-time All-Big Ten Conference honoree. She is the school's career leader in WHIP. [2] [3] Ritter was undrafted and played one season in the National Pro Fastpitch in 2005 with the defunct Texas Thunder. [4]

Early life

Ritter played at Farmington High School and led the Lady Scorpions to a state title and was named the 2000 Gatorade New Mexico Player of The Year. She also played as a third baseman. [5]

Minnesota

Ritter served as an assistant coach at Minnesota for 13 seasons under four different head coaches.

On May 3, 2020, Ritter was named the head coach of Minnesota. [6] [7] [8] [9]

The 2008–09 Minnesota Golden Gophers men's basketball team represented the University of Minnesota in the college basketball season of 2008–2009. The team's head coach was Tubby Smith. This was Smith's second year as Minnesota's head coach. The Golden Gophers played their home games at Williams Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Big Ten Network included the team in a two-and-a-half-hour special that featured Midnight Madness events from several Big Ten campuses on October 17, 2008; the Minnesota event to kick off the season was called "Tubby's Tipoff". The Gophers started the season on a twelve-game winning streak for the first time since the 1948–49 season. The team became ranked on December 22, the first time the team had been ranked since the 2002–03 season.

John Anderson is an American college baseball coach and former pitcher. He is the former head baseball coach at the University of Minnesota. Anderson played college baseball at the University of Minnesota from 1974 to 1975, until injuries ended his career. In 38 seasons, Anderson has led the Golden Gophers to a record of 1,317 wins, 887 losses and three ties. In the Big Ten he has led Golden Gophers to a record of 592 wins and 351 losses in that same span.

Jessica Merchant is an American softball coach and former softball player. She is currently the associate head coach of the Stanford Cardinal softball team. She played professionally for the Canadian Wild in the NPF since being drafted second overall in 2017. She most recently played for Athletes Unlimited Softball. She has been a member of the Canada women's national softball team since 2013. Groenewegen helped Team Canada win a bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

The season ended on March 12, 2020, when the NCAA cancelled all winter championships and spring sports seasons due to the coronavirus pandemic. The 2020 NCAA Division I softball tournament and 2020 Women's College World Series, which were to be held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium, did not occur.
