Pizza Schmizza is an American pizza franchise with 23 locations throughout the Portland, Oregon area, and two in southern Oregon, as well as one in Vancouver, Washington. [1] Pizza Schmizza primarily sells thin crust pizza by the slice.
Pizza Schmizza opened its first location on August 6, 1993 in downtown Hillsboro, Oregon by brothers Andre and Roger Jehan. [2]
In 2003, Pizza Schmizza received complaints from an advertising watchdog group for hiring homeless men to hold signs bearing the slogan "Pizza Schmizza paid me to hold this sign instead of asking for money". [3] Owner Andre Jehan countered that this was a way to help the homeless and that the homeless found the arrangement a positive experience. [4]
Pizza Schmizza received a media award from the Oregon Department of Human Services for support of a program discouraging underage alcohol consumption in 2004. [5]
In 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Southwest Montgomery Schmizza location received media attention for offering a special which included a roll of toilet paper with every order. The promotion coincided with a national toilet paper shortage that resulted from supply chain disruptions caused by COVID-19. [6]
After CEO Doug Wetter was unable to do his day-to-day job with Pizza Schmizza, the company went into talks with Figaro's Pizza about selling the company. On March 31, 2008, Pizza Schmizza and Figaro's Pizza completed a deal for Figaro's to acquire Pizza Schmizza. [7] Figaro's subsequently spun off the business (December 2014), and the two companies are no longer related.

Street Roots is a Portland, Oregon, United States based homeless advocacy group and a weekly alternative newspaper that covers homeless issues. The newsprint is sold by and for the homeless in Portland. The paper is published every Friday and sold through vendors who are currently or formerly homeless. The paper's editorial position is homeless advocacy. Vendors purchase the paper for 25 cents and sell them for $1 and keep the difference of 75 cents. The paper features alternative news, interviews, and poetry written by local journalists as well as the homeless and those who work with them.

Right 2 Dream Too is a self-managed houseless encampment in Portland, Oregon incorporated as a nonprofit organization. In its beginning, it has set up an unauthorized houseless camp on private property in October, 2011 in Old Town Chinatown at Northwest 4th Avenue and West Burnside Street near downtown, Portland. It had permission from the property owner, but it was not authorized by the city. The encampment was started as a direct action of Right 2 Survive, and quickly self organized into a rest area. Right 2 Survive has not been active with Right 2 Dream Too since 2017. Its operation erected tents and built a fence without necessary permits and it was assessed fines for doing so. In April 2017, the city agreed to allow its organized "Rest Area" to move to a land owned by the Portland Bureau of Transportation and stay for up to two years. Its camp remained at the original location for over five years before moving to a temporary site in North Portland on N Thunderbird Way in July 2017. It was reported in August 2020 that the lease at this site has been extended until April 2021, and extended 2 more times, currently through April 2023. It has now been providing a safe place for unhoused Portlanders for over 10 years.
