Plashet School is a secondary girls school in East Ham, London with approximately 1,350 students. It was previously a grammar school. In 2009 Ofsted highlighted Plashet as one of 12 outstanding schools serving disadvantaged communities. [1]

History

Plashet dates back to 1932 when the East Ham Grammar School for Girls first opened on the South site. In the 1950s, the North site was built, and Plashet County Secondary Modern School for Girls was opened. These two schools were amalgamated into Plashet School in 1972 and the two sites were physically linked by the Plashet Unity Bridge in November 2000. [2] This was designed so students had a safer way to get to and from lessons without skipping school or getting into accidents.

In 1990, Bushra Nasir joined Plashet School, serving as deputy head teacher; she then became head teacher in 1993. [1] She was the first Muslim woman teacher to become head of a UK comprehensive school. She is the president of the Muslim Teachers Association and was appointed a CBE in 2003, and Professional of the Year at the 2005 Asian Women of Achievement awards. [3]

Location

East Ham tube station and High Street North are within 5 minutes' walk of the school, and it draws students from across the London Borough of Newham and from neighbouring boroughs.

Plashet school topped the state school rankings in 2008 when it also got an excellent report from Ofsted and was also recognised by the international school standards. There are 1,350 students on roll, with a 10 form entry in each year group.

There are approximately 80 full-time teaching staff complemented by a team of English as a Second Language teachers, Special Needs teachers and classroom assistants. The students are offered a wide range of extra-curricular activities to enhance their learning and enjoyment.

Harris Academy St John's Wood is a secondary school in St John's Wood, North London, that was re-named in 2017. It is a 7 form-entry non-selective co-educational academy. Its predecessor Quintin Kynaston was founded in 1969 by the merger of Quintin Grammar School and Kynaston School. The earlier schools, which were built on the same site, opened in September 1956. It has been an academy school since November 2011. Newham Sixth Form College (NewVIc) is a sixth form college located in the East London borough of Newham. Situated on a single site in Plaistow, the college was established in 1992 to provide for students in Newham and neighbouring boroughs who opt to stay in education beyond GCSE O-levels. It is designed for students ages 16 to 19 and its curriculum includes A-levels as well as specialist pathway, levels 2 and 3 vocational, foundation level and ESOL programmes. There are currently about 2,500 students at the college.

Brampton Manor Academy is an 11–19 mixed, secondary school and selective sixth form with academy status in East Ham, London, England. It is the second largest school in the London Borough of Newham. In 2019, 41 of its students were offered Oxbridge places; in 2020 the number was 51 and in 2021 it was 55.

She was found guilty of attempted murder and jailed for life with a minimum term of 15 years. Choudhry was the first Al-Qaeda sympathiser to attempt an assassination in Britain.

Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre, also known as The NCS, is a free school sixth form college located in East Ham, London, England. Administered by the City of London Academies Trust, it was opened in 2014. The college is coeducational and is affiliated with University College London who is a strategic partner. It is rated “Outstanding” by Ofsted. It has an ALPS 1 score for value added.
