Platypria (Platypria) erinaceus, is a species of leaf beetle native to India and Sri Lanka. [1] [2]
Antenna thick, which is not extending beyond scutellum over pronotum. [3]
It is found in wide varieties of host plants including: Desmodium gangeticum , Erythrina , Pueraria tuberosa , Oryza sativa , Saccharum officinarum , Ziziphus jujuba , Ziziphus mauritiana and Ziziphus nummularia . [3] [4]
It has observed that chalcid wasps lay their eggs on the late larval instars of the beetle. [3]
The insects of the beetle family Chrysomelidae are commonly known as leaf beetles, and include over 37,000 species in more than 2,500 genera, making up one of the largest and most commonly encountered of all beetle families. Numerous subfamilies are recognized, but the precise taxonomy and systematics are likely to change with ongoing research.
The Donaciinae are a subfamily of the leaf beetles, or Chrysomelidae, characterised by distinctly long antennae. They are found in mainly the Northern Hemisphere, with some species found in the Southern Hemisphere.
Pyrrhalta is a genus of beetles in the leaf beetle family, Chrysomelidae. Species are distributed throughout much of the world, including much of the Northern Hemisphere and the Australian region.
Phratora is a genus of leaf beetles. It is synonymous to Phyllodecta . European Phratora species can be distinguished based on morphology of female genitalia., but they differ little in size and body form and most show metallic coloration.
Phratora vitellinae, the brassy leaf beetle, formerly Phyllodecta vitellinae, is a beetle of the family Chrysomelidae found in Europe and Asia. It feeds on Populus and Salix species. The evolution of its host plant preferences and the mechanism by which it uses host plant chemicals to make a larval defensive secretion have been the subject of intense study by research groups in Europe and the Nordic countries.
Chaetocnema rileyi, the Boca Chica flea beetle, is a species of flea beetle in the family Chrysomelidae. It is found in North America.
Luperaltica nigripalpis is a species of flea beetle in the family Chrysomelidae. It is found in North America.
Longitarsus melanurus is a species of flea beetle in the family Chrysomelidae. It is found in North America.
Systena marginalis, the margined systena, is a species of flea beetle in the family Chrysomelidae. It is found in North America.
Schizonycha ruficollis, is a species of dung beetle found in India and Sri Lanka.
Phratora tibialis is a species of leaf beetle found in Europe and parts of Asia. This beetle is found on willows and the chemistry and production of its larval defensive secretions and host plant relationships have been studied extensively.
Myllocerus dentifer, is a species of weevil found in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Leptispa pygmaea, commonly known as rice leaf beetle, or rice blue beetle, is a species of leaf beetle native to India and Sri Lanka. It is a major pest of Asian rice.
