Preko (lit. "Across") is a village and a municipality in Zadar County, Croatia. It is situated, as the name suggests, opposite of Zadar, on the island of Ugljan. Its old centre consists of typical Dalmatian architecture with numerous patrician family summer houses. According to the 2011 census, there are 3,805 inhabitants, 88% which are Croats. [3]
Sitting in the mountains above Preko, is the castle of St. Michael, built by Eastern Roman empire in the 6th century. The castle was rebuilt by the Republic of Venice in the 13th century. Its main purpose was control above channel of Zadar and group of islands behind the island of Ugljan. The castle was sacked by English crusaders on their way to the Holy Land, and by the Nazis in World War II. The high position of the castle made it the perfect lookout and listening station for the occupying Germans. Today, the castle is home to a telecommunications station. About 80 m from Preko lies the islet of Galevac (Školjić).
The 11th century Romanesque church of St. John the Baptist is situated on the eastern side of the locality, near the ferry port. Preko is the closest starting point for the excursion to St. Michael's fortress (265 m above the sea level). The view from the fortress spreads over more than 200 islands of the archipelago of Zadar and Kornati National Park.

Rivanj is an Adriatic Sea island in the Zadar Archipelago, between the islands of Sestrunj and Ugljan, with an area of 4.4 square kilometres (1.7 sq mi) ; population 31 (2011); highest peak Lukocina. The only village is Rivanj, located in the interior of the island; below it, on the south-western coast, is a small harbour with a hamlet. The island is largely covered with underbrush and thicket. Rivanj has a daily ferry and ship line with Zadar. The present village was allegedly founded by the inhabitants of the island of Ugljan. Rivanj is frequented by boaters. There are only 2 family surnames in Rivanj, Radulić and Fatović, and there is a church of St. Jelena on the island.

The island is partially covered with maquis shrubland and low forests. Remains of an Illyrian fort are situated on the island. The island's main industries are agriculture and fishing.

Kali is a municipality in Croatia on Ugljan island in Zadar County. In the 2011 census, there were 1,638 inhabitants, 99.39% of whom were Croats. Kali was mentioned in historical documents for the first time in 1299, but archaeological finds on the Orjak hill prove that life existed in this area since prehistoric times.
Sutomišćica is a village in Croatia, on the eastern side of the island of Ugljan in the region of Dalmatia. Sutomišćica, which was already inhabited in ancient times, is situated in a beautiful bay of the same name, about 3 km from Preko. On the opposite side of the bay a new marina has been built.
Ugljan is a village on an island also named Ugljan, in Preko municipality, Zadar County, Croatia. It is connected by the D110 highway. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of 1,278. Ugljan has nine hamlets: Čeprljanda, Lučino Selo, Batalaža, Sušica, Gornje Selo, Muline, Guduće, Fortoština and Varoš. On the cape there is an old Franciscan monastery from 1430 with Gothic church from 1447.
Lukoran is a village in Croatia, located on the Adriatic island of Ugljan overlooking at the Zadar peninsula. It is connected with other island villages with the State route D110. Lukoran was mentioned in the year 1068. It was the birthplace of Šimun Klimantović*, a Glagolitic writer, as he said for himself in his chronicle of the Glagolitic (1511). His two collections are kept in Zagreb and in the Russian National Library in St. Petersburg.
Ošljak is a Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea. Its total area is 0.3 km2 and it lies just off the Dalmatian coast between Zadar and the island of Ugljan. According to the 2011 Census, the island's single village, located on the western shore and facing the towns of Kali and Preko on Ugljan, has a resident population of 29 inhabitants, and its highest point, called Lazaret, peaks at 90 m (300 ft). Ošljak used to be called Calugerà, after the noble Calogerà family that had owned the island and built its summer residence and gardens there. On the island is the church of St. Mary from the 6th century.
