Previously, a Pune based WDM 3A / WDM 3D locomotive hauled the train between Pune Junction & Manmad Junction after which a Santragachi or Howrah based WAP 4 locomotive took over until Howrah Junction.
With completion of the electrification of the Pune - Daund - Manmad Junction section, it is now an end to end haul by a Santragachi based WAP 7.
The 12221 / 22 Pune Howrah Duronto Express runs from Daund Junction, Manmad Junction, Bhusaval Junction, Nagpur, Bilaspur Junction and Tatanagar Junction to Howrah Junction.
