Pushpavanam Kuppusamy is a Tamil folk singer, playback singer, lyricist, writer and music composer. He has been credited for reviving the Naatupura Paatu, a type of Tamil folk art. Together with his wife Anitha Kuppusamy, he has conducted several concerts of Tamil folk songs, [1] and the couple have together brought out several albums of authentic Tamil folk music. He has also written books on Tamil Folk songs. [2] He appears on Television Channels like Sun TV, Vijay TV, and Makkal TV performing musical shows. He is a recipient of the Kalaimamani award from the Government of Tamil Nadu.
Kuppusamy studied at Madras University and gained M.A., M.Phil., and a Ph.D. in music. He received his Ph.D. from Queen Mary's College, Chennai. Sathyabhama University gave an Honorary Doctorate to Kuppusamy for his contribution to music.
Along with his wife, he has performed around 3000 shows in India and abroad. [3] He is known for his incorporation of social messages through his music. [4]
Kuppusamy has sung film songs for many popular music directors, including Ilaiyaraaja, Vidyasagar, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Devi Sri Prasad, and G. V. Prakash Kumar.
Kuppusamy is one of the seasonal judges in Vijay TV hosted Airtel Super Singer and Airtel Super Singer Junior.

Kuppusamy hails from a Tamil family from Nagapattinam district Vedaranyam. He did his schooling at Vedaranyam S.K.S Government higher secondary School. He is married to Anitha Kuppusamy who is also a singer. [1]

Airtel Super Singer 2006 – Thamizhagathil Brahmaanda Kuralukkaana Thedal, the first season of the Airtel Super Singer show and Vijay TV's Super Singer series, was a reality TV singing competition in the Tamil language that aired on Star Vijay and was hosted by singer/voice artist Chinmayi Sripaada. The judging panel of this season includes, Anuradha Sriram, P. Unnikrishnan, and Srinivas. The show first premiered on 28 April 2006, with episodes originally aired on Star Vijay on Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday nights at 7:00 pm.
Airtel Super Singer Junior – Ithu Thamizhagathin Chellakuralukkana Thedal – is a reality TV show since February 2007 hosted by Vijay TV, a popular Tamil channel of the Star Network, and sponsored by Bharti Airtel. It is a singing talent hunt for the children of age group 6–15. This is the junior version of the Airtel Super Singer show, which premiered on 28 April 2006. Auditions are held in various parts of Tamil Nadu, India. The show attracts many kids from all over the state and rigorous multi-level selection procedures are done in order to select the contestants for the competition. The tenth season launched on 16th November 2024.
The third season of Airtel Super Singer Junior - Thamizhagathin Chellakuralukkana Thedal premiered on 17 October 2011 and 26 October 2012. The music competition reality TV show was again telecast on Vijay TV, and Bharti Airtel returned to sponsor the show. Episodes were telecast between Monday to Friday each week at 9:00pm. Children from the age of 6 years to the age of 14 years were permitted to audition to showcase their talent on Vijay TV's platform. Apart from gaining recognition from acclaimed names of the music industry and being a child singing icon, the show promised that its winner would be honored with a 3-bedroom Villa worth Rs.60 lakhs from its sponsor, Arun Excello Temple Green Township. Aajeedh Khalique was crowned the winner of Airtel Super Singer Junior Season 3. Pragathy Guruprasad was the first runner up.
