Quirk Memorial Baptist Church (QMB Church), founded in 1948, [1] is a Baptist Church affiliated to the Convention of Baptist Churches of Northern Circars. The Church is located on Rama Talkies Road in Resapuvanipalem, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (India).

The QMB Church is known among the Churches in Visakhapatnam for its proactive [3] programmes. [2]

History

The founding of the Church is attributed to the missionary endeavour of the Canadian Baptist Ministries which embarked on an overseas missionary enterprise in 1874 through the efforts of Thomas Gabriel. The QMB Church was established in postcolonialism era in 1948 [1] by The Reverend E. L. Quirk who founded [1] what was originally known as the Baptist Church Maddilapalem. [1] The old edifice was reconstructed and dedicated on 24 July 1985. [1]

After more than twenty years, a new edifice was constructed and dedicated on May Day [4] 2009 in the presence of the Baptist patriarchs comprising The Rev. C. L. Johnson, [5] CBCNC, then Principal of the Baptist Theological Seminary, Kakinada and The Rev. G. Babu Rao, [5] CBCNC, then Church Relations Coordinator of Canadian Baptist Ministries during the incumbency of the present Pastor, The Rev. G. Isaiah. [4]

The Pastor

The senior Pastor, The Rev. G. Isaiah comes with enough experience in Pastoralia and had been an aspirant at the Baptist Theological Seminary, Kakinada during the period of The Rev. S. E. Krupa Rao, CBCNC. Subsequently, the Seminary Council sent Isaiah for ministerial formation to the Andhra Christian Theological College, Hyderabad where Isaiah pursued spiritual studies during 1986-1989 [6] during the Principalship of The Rev. S. Joseph, STBC and other Spiritual Formators including The Rev. M. Victor Paul, AELC, The Rev. Jürgen Fangmeier, [7] The Rev. R. R. Sundara Rao, AELC, The Rev. R. Yesurathnam, CSI and The Rev. G. Dyvasirvadam, CSI. As part of the University criteria, Isaiah also submitted a dissertation entitled, The life history of Prof. M. Theophilus and his contribution to the CBCNC , [6] fulfilling the requirements for the award of Bachelor of Divinity degree by the Senate of Serampore College (University), Serampore, West Bengal. The succeeding year, in 1990, Isaiah was awarded the B.D. degree by the University during the Registrarship of The Rev. D. S. Satyaranjan, IPC.

The seminary was affiliated to nation's first University, the Senate of Serampore College (University) in 1949.

B. P. Sugandhar was the fifth successor of Frank Whittaker as Bishop - in - Medak of the Church of South India whose bishopric lasted for more than a decade and half from 1993 through 2009 coinciding with the archbishoprics of Samineni Arulappa and Marampudi Joji of the Archdiocese of Hyderabad.

M. Victor Paul was a biblical scholar who served as President of the Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church from 1993 to 1997.

Bishop T. B. D. Prakasa Rao was the fourth CSI-Bishop - in - Krishna-Godavari of the Protestant Church of South India who occupied the Cathedra placed at CSI-St. Paul's Cathedral, Vijayawada. The Bishopric of Prakasa Rao lasted for two decades from 1981 through 2001, one of the longest in the history of the Church of South India Society. Prakasa Rao led the bishopric of Krishna-Godavari that comprised the Christian missions established by the London Missionary Society (LMS) and the Church Missionary Society (CMS) which merged its South India Christian missions in India into the Church of South India Society which was inaugurated in 1947 at the CSI-St. George's Cathedral, Madras.

Ryder Devapriam was systematic theologian who taught during the 1960s and the 1970s at the Andhra Christian Theological College, a Protestant Regional Theologiate in Secunderabad, affiliated to the nation's first University, the Senate of Serampore College (University) {a University under Section 2 (f) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956}with degree-granting authority validated by a Danish Charter and ratified by the Government of West Bengal.

The Bible Society of India Andhra Pradesh Auxiliary is located in Guntur.

Acharya A. B. Masilamani or Abel Boanerges Masilamani (1914–1990) was a Golden Jubilee Baptist pastor and evangelist on whom parallels had been drawn comparing his ecclesiastical ministry with that of Saint Paul. The Mar Thoma Syrian Church, one of the Saint Thomas Christian Churches founded by Thomas the Apostle in the first century which holds the annual Maramon Conventions used to have Masilamani preach at its conventions since the 1970s. During one such Maramon Convention held in 1983 at Maramon, Masilamani was one of the main speaker who spoke on Christology in the presence of the two patriarchs of the Mar Thoma Church, Alexander Mar Thoma and Thomas Mar Athanius.

The Right Reverend K. Reuben Mark is the present Bishop in Karimnagar and the sixth in succession and occupies the Cathedra of the Bishop placed in Karimnagar's CSI-Wesley Cathedral. Reuben Mark is currently a Council Member for the period 2015–2018 at the fully-ecumenical United Theological College, Bangalore. During the XXXVIth session of Church of South India Synod, Reuben Mark has been elected as Deputy Moderator for the triennium 2020-2023 succeeding V. Prasada Rao.

Chetti Bhanumurti was a Hymn Writer whose hymns are found in the Hymnal in Telugu. Bhanumurti was a Pastor of the Canadian Baptist Mission/Convention of Baptist Churches of Northern Circars who also led the Principalship of the Baptist Theological Seminary, Kakinada from 1945-1956 leading to its affiliation to the nation's first University, Senate of Serampore College (University) in 1946

S. E. Krupa Rao was a Pastor of the Protestant Convention of Baptist Churches of Northern Circars where he held leadership positions in the Church society whose area of operation extended from Srikakulam District in the northern circars along the Bay of Bengal right through seven districts up to Guntur District.

T. Gnananandam was a Pastor of the Protestant Convention of Baptist Churches of Northern Circars and was Principal of the Baptist Theological Seminary, Kakinada during 1968-1969, the shortest ever in the history of the seminary.

M. Theophilus was a Baptist Patriarch and Spiritual Formator of the Protestant Convention of Baptist Churches of Northern Circars, a major congregation along the Bay of Bengal in Andhra Pradesh, India that extends from Srikakulam District in the northern tip through Guntur District in the middle. Theophilus taught at the Baptist Theological Seminary, Kakinada during the period 1926-1946 and was also Senator of India's first University, the Senate of Serampore College (University) during 1942-1946 taking forward not only the theological concerns of the University but also the concerns of Serampore College, which as a dual University affiliated entity, had the arts, science and commerce faculties affiliated to the University of Calcutta. In matters of Church union, Theophilus actively cooperated with the National Council of Churches in India that not only incorporated the Protestant and the Oriental Orthodox Churches but also reached out to the Catholics.

G. Solomon was an Old Testament Scholar and a Baptist Patriarch hailing from the Protestant Samavesam of Telugu Baptist Churches Society (an affiliate member of the Baptist World Alliance and the National Council of Churches in India) and led it as its President during the years 1978-1982 overseeing the spiritual affairs of the Church Society whose ecclesiastical jurisdiction comprises the three states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana with 873 Churches comprising nearly a million members per present statistics.

Tantepudi George Cornelious is the current Bishop - in - Krishna Godavari Diocese of the Church of South India with the Bishop's Cathedra housed in CSI-St. Andrew's Cathedral in Machilipatnam. However, for administrative purposes, the Office of the Bishopric is located in Vijayawada with its ecclesiastical jurisdiction encompassing the civil districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, and Guntur in Andhra Pradesh.

M. S. G. Lalitha Kumari a.k.a. Lalitha Krupa Rao was the eighth Principal of Eva Rose York Bible Training and Technical School for Women, Tuni. She held the term from 1993 through 2011. Lalitha was a theologically trained woman who also used to pastor a Church. With her ordination in 1992, she became the first Woman priest in the Protestant Convention of Baptist Churches of Northern Circars.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">G. D. Melanchthon</span>

G. D. Melanchthon (1934–1994) was a Silver Jubilee Priest hailing from Protestant Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church Society who taught Religions, at United Theological College, Bangalore from 1968 till the latter half of eighties until his career was brought to an abrupt end in 1988 on being stricken with paralysis. Melanchthon used to be quite active among the academic community along with Chrysostom Arangaden, Arvind P. Nirmal and others in not only delivering scholarly talks, but also in contributing research articles and reviewing new titles.

Bishop P. I. Vara Prasad(born 8.10.1962) is a silver jubilee Priest and current Bishop - in - Rayalaseema Diocese of the Church of South India. Ever since his ordination as Deacon/Presbyter in 1993 by then Bishop L. V. Azariah, he began his career as a Priest in Churches within ecclesiastical jurisdiction of CSI-Diocese of Rayalaseema that comprise parts of civil states of Andhra Pradesh and Telugu-speaking parts of Tamil Nadu. Vara Prasad is well versed in conducting Mass, following Presbyterian, Congregational and Anglican rites.

Perapogu Joseph was a military chaplain in the Indian Army Corps of EME and a counselor who taught students in Serampore College, Serampore and Andhra Christian Theological College, Secunderabad.
