John Franklin Candy was a Canadian actor and comedian who is best known for his work in Hollywood films. Candy first rose to national prominence in the 1970s as a member of the Toronto branch of the Second City and its SCTV sketch comedy series. He rose to international fame in the 1980s with his roles in comedy films such as Stripes (1981), Splash (1984), Brewster's Millions (1985), Armed and Dangerous (1986), Spaceballs (1987), Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987), The Great Outdoors (1988), Uncle Buck (1989), and Cool Runnings (1993). He also appeared in supporting roles in The Blues Brothers (1980), National Lampoon's Vacation (1983), Little Shop of Horrors (1986), Home Alone (1990), and Nothing but Trouble (1991).

The National Soccer League was a soccer league in Canada that existed from 1926 to 1997. Teams were primarily based in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec. The league was renamed to Canadian National Soccer League in 1993 following the folding of the Canadian Soccer League, and the accepting of the Winnipeg Fury, making the league more national. Philip Gerald Givens, was a Canadian politician and judge. He was the Mayor of Toronto, a Member of Parliament (MP) and Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP). He was born and raised in Toronto and attended high school at Harbord Collegiate Institute. He studied law at Osgoode Hall Law School and graduated in 1949. He became a judge after leaving politics in the late 1970s. He retired from the judiciary in 1988, and died in Toronto in 1995.

The World Junior Curling Championships are an annual curling bonspiel featuring the world's best curlers who are 21 years old or younger. The competitions for both men and women occur at the same venue. The men's tournament has occurred since 1975 and the women's since 1988. Since curling became an Olympic sport in 1998, the World Junior Curling Championship of the year preceding the Olympic Games have been held at the site of the curling tournament for the upcoming Games.

The 1975 NHL amateur draft was the 13th NHL entry draft. It was held at the NHL office in Montreal, Quebec. The two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Philadelphia Flyers made the most noise at the draft, trading Bill Clement, Don McLean, and the 18th overall pick to the Washington Capitals for the number one overall selection, which they used to select Mel Bridgman. Later in round nine the Flyers became the first NHL team to select a Soviet-born and trained player in the amateur draft, selecting Latvian Viktor Khatulev 160th pick overall.
The 1975 Memorial Cup took place May 3–11 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex in Kitchener, Ontario. It was the 57th annual Memorial Cup competition, organized by the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) to determine the champion of major junior A ice hockey. Participating teams were the winners of the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and Western Hockey League which were the Toronto Marlboros, Sherbrooke Castors and New Westminster Bruins. Toronto won their 7th Memorial Cup, defeating New Westminster in the final game.
Miles Gorrell is a former all star offensive lineman in the Canadian Football League (CFL). The five-time divisional All-Star and two-time Outstanding Lineman finalist sits sixth on the record books for games played (321) from 1978 to 1996 for the Calgary Stampeders, Ottawa Rough Riders, Montreal Concordes, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He won one Grey Cup with Hamilton and played in two more with Winnipeg. He was a 5-time CFL Eastern Division All-Star and a 2-time CFL Outstanding Lineman finalist.

Scarborough North is a provincial riding in Ontario, Canada. It was originally created prior to the 1963 provincial election and eliminated in 1996, when most of its territory was incorporated into the ridings of Scarborough—Agincourt and Scarborough—Rouge River. For the 2018 provincial election, it was re-created from Scarborough—Agincourt and Scarborough—Rouge River. Scarborough North riding was originally created from part of the former riding of York—Scarborough. It is in the former borough of Scarborough.
Norman H. Kimball is a Canadian former football executive. Joining the organization in 1961, he served as the general manager of the Edmonton Eskimos from 1966 to 1985. He won the Grey Cup with the team in 1975 and for five years straight from 1978 to 1982. From 1971 to 1974, he was Chairman of the CFL General Managers. In 1975, he became the Chairman of the CFL's Player Relations Committee. He was also President and Chief Operating Officer of the Montreal Alouettes from 1986 to 1987. Kimball was elected as a builder in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame on May 11, 1991. In 2011, Kimball was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame.
