Rev Limit [lower-alpha 1] is an unreleased sim racing video game that was in development and planned to be published by Seta Corporation in May 1998 for the Nintendo 64. It was also intended to be the first arcade title to use Seta's own Aleck 64 arcade board, and was planned for the 64DD as well. It was one of the earliest original third-party racing titles to be announced for the system. In the game, players compete against either computer-controlled vehicles or other human opponents across several tracks of varying thematic in order to reach first place and advance to the next course.
Rev Limit was previewed in 1996 and first showcased running in real-time at the Shoshinkai 1996 to mixed reception from the video game press and attendees of the event. Shown across various video game magazines, its release was constantly postponed as the game underwent numerous redesigns, with Seta facing financial difficulties that diminished their output and eventually lead to the game's cancellation for both the Nintendo 64 and arcades. Although it was never officially released to the public, a prototype cartridge surfaced in 2016.
Rev Limit is a racing game similar to Ridge Racer and Gran Turismo , where the player must maneuver any of the cars to compete against either artificially intelligent opponents or another human opponent on various race tracks set across multiple locations. [2] [3] [4] The game features various modes to choose from at the main menu, such as Arcade, Time Attack, Championship and Versus Battle. Players can also change weather conditions, automatic or manual transmission for the vehicle, number of laps and more. The Option screen allows the player to configure the control settings and other options. [2] [3] [4] In Arcade mode, the courses are grouped into six different classes to choose before racing. Rev Limit was first previewed in the fourth quarther of 1996 in various magazines, [5] [6] [7] before being showcased running in real-time and playable for the first time to attendees at Shoshinkai 1996 where its visuals received praises, but otherwise it had a mixed reception. [8] [9] [10] [11] It was one of the first original racing titles to be announced for the Nintendo 64, and was shown alongside other titles in development from Seta such as Chopper Attack and Eikō no Saint Andrews at the aforementioned event. [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] Early previews of the game mentioned playable game modes such as sprint, endurance and drag races but no support for multiplayer, and touted it for a 1997 release. Yasuhiko Kikuchi was one of the designers involved with the project, while Harada Noboru served as the leader of the development team during production. [22] The title continued to be previewed in magazines and was demonstrated once again to the public at Nintendo Space World 1997, now touted for a 1998 release, and planned as the first title for Seta's own Aleck 64 arcade board. [23] [24] [25] Although the game falied to make an appearance at E3 1998, Seta reassured that the title was still on scheduled to be published despite kept being delayed. [26] [27] However, despite being now planned for release on the 64DD, [28] Seta started to face financial constrains in the late 1990s that diminished their output as a result, which would eventually lead to the cancellation of the game for both Nintendo 64 and arcades. In 2016, a prototype cartridge containing a 1999 build of Rev Limit was sold off at Yahoo! Auctions in Japan, containing various differences compared to other previously showcased versions of the game, as well as grammatical errors. [2] [3] [4]

Super Mario 64 is a 1996 platform game for the Nintendo 64 and the first Super Mario game to feature 3D gameplay. It was developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo. As Mario, the player collects power stars while exploring Princess Peach's castle and must rescue her from Bowser. Super Mario 64 features open-world playability, degrees of freedom through all three axes in space, and relatively large areas which are composed primarily of true 3D polygons as opposed to only two-dimensional (2D) sprites. It emphasizes exploration within vast worlds, which require the player to complete various missions in addition to the occasional linear obstacle courses. It preserves many gameplay elements and characters of earlier Mario games as well as the visual style.
The 64DD is a magnetic disk drive peripheral for the Nintendo 64 game console developed by Nintendo. It was announced in 1995, prior to the Nintendo 64's 1996 launch, and after numerous delays was released only in Japan on December 1, 1999. The "64" references both the Nintendo 64 console and the 64MB storage capacity of the disks, and "DD" is short for "disk drive" or "dynamic drive".
The Rumble Pak is a removable device from Nintendo which provides force feedback while playing video games. Games that support the Rumble Pak cause it to vibrate in select situations, such as when firing a weapon or receiving damage, to immerse the player in the game. Versions of the Rumble Pak are available for the Nintendo 64, the Nintendo DS, and the Nintendo DS Lite. A select few Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance games use a similar technology built into the game cartridge. Force feedback vibration has become a built-in standard feature in almost every home video game console controller since.
Nintendo Space World, formerly named Shoshinkai, and Famicom Space World, was a video game trade show hosted by Nintendo from 1989 to 2001. Its three days of high-energy party atmosphere was the primary venue for Nintendo and its licensees to announce and demonstrate new consoles and games. Anticipated and dissected each year with hype and exclusivity, it was a destination for the international video game press, with some detailed developer interviews and technology demos. The events served as the launch or marketing flashpoints of countless major industrywide products, especially Nintendo's flagship platforms and video games. The show launched the Super Famicom, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, 64DD, and all the core games for the Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Pokémon franchises. Some major exhibitions would be teased and then never be seen again, leaving fans and press to maintain hype and inquiry for years as with the Super Mario 128 demo, the controversial Wind Waker teaser video, EarthBound 64, and a litany of lost 64DD games.
Wave Race 64 is a racing video game developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo. It was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1996 and is a follow-up to the 1992 Game Boy title Wave Race. Most of the game involves the player racing on a Jet Ski on a variety of courses while successfully manoeuvring the vehicle around various buoys. A multiplayer mode where two players can compete against each other on a chosen course is also included. The game supports the Controller Pak, which allows players to transfer saved data from one game cartridge to another.
War Gods is a fighting video game originally released to arcades by Midway Games in 1996. Ports for the Nintendo 64, PlayStation and Windows were released in 1997. In the game, players control one of ten fighters who have been given great power by a mysterious ore that crashed-landed on Earth from outer space. The object of the game is to defeat all the other fighters to become the most powerful warrior on the planet.
Top Gear Rally is a 1997 racing video game developed by Boss Game Studios and released for the Nintendo 64. A follow-up to Kemco's original Top Gear game, it features a championship mode where a single player must complete six seasons of two to four races, as well as a multiplayer mode where two players may compete against each other via a split-screen display. The game's tracks combine both road and off-road surfaces and can be played in different weather conditions, including night, fog, rain, and snow. Players may customize their car with different tire grips and adjust its suspension stiffness and steering sensitivity. An option that allows players to custom paint their cars is also included.

Dual Heroes is a fighting game for Nintendo 64. The game was developed by Produce! and published by Hudson Soft in Japan, Electro Brain in North America and Gaga Interactive Media in Europe.
F1 Pole Position 64, released in Japan as Human Grand Prix: The New Generation, is a 1997 racing video game for the Nintendo 64 developed by Human Entertainment and published by them in Japan, but handled by Ubi Soft for North American and European releases. It is the fifth and final game in the Human Grand Prix / F1 Pole Position series, featuring Formula One branding.
Monaco Grand Prix: Racing Simulation 2, also known as just Monaco Grand Prix, is a Formula one racing game for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo 64, PlayStation, and Dreamcast. It was released in 1998-1999. The game is based on the Formula One World Championship, but does not have the licence to use drivers names, official cars, etc.. The game does however have a licence to use Formula One's official sponsors; Schweppes and Castrol among others, helping add to the authenticity of the game. The game is unrelated to Sega's Monaco GP series.
Dragon Hopper is an unreleased action-adventure video game that was in development by Intelligent Systems and planned to be published by Nintendo on a scheduled 1996 release date exclusively for the Virtual Boy. Along with Japan System Supply's Bound High!, it would have been one of the first second-generation titles for the system if not for the poor critical and commercial reception it garnered that led to its planned relaunch being discontinued, which also led to the game's cancellation in the process.
Saikyō Habu Shōgi is a Japanese virtual board game for the Nintendo 64 developed and published by Seta. It was released exclusively in Japan on June 23, 1996, as one of the Nintendo 64's three Japanese launch games alongside Super Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64. It was the only launch game to use the Controller Pak. The game's "special guest" is the shogi player Yoshiharu Habu, who won all seven major shogi championships the year of the game's release. Though it was anticipated that the game would be a bestseller and a major showcase for the Nintendo 64's processing power, sales were not high, with only about one copy accompanying every one hundred consoles sold at the system launch. Seta released a sequel titled Morita Shogi 64, which was announced at Nintendo Space World in 1996.
Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth is a 1998 shoot 'em up video game developed and published by Hudson Soft for the Nintendo 64, a direct sequel to Soldier Blade and is part of their Star Soldier series. There was also an arcade version released for Seta's Aleck 64, arcade hardware similar to the Nintendo 64.
San Francisco Rush: Extreme Racing is a video game developed and published by Atari Games. This game was first released in arcades in 1996 and was ported to Nintendo 64 in 1997 and the PlayStation in 1998. San Francisco Rush: Extreme Racing is the first game in the Rush series.
Bound High! is an unreleased action-puzzle video game that was in development by Japan System Supply and planned to be published by Nintendo on a scheduled 1996 release date exclusively for the Virtual Boy. In the game, players take control of a transforming robot named Chalvo through a series of levels riddled with hazardous obstacles to avoid across multiple worlds, while destroying or knocking out alien invaders off the area. The project was first conceptualized by designer and programmer Hideyuki Nakanishi, who wrote the idea on paper and placed it within a wall inside the offices of Japan System Supply, with his manager eventually greenlighting its development after seeing it.
Zero Racers is an unreleased racing video game that was in development and planned to be published by Nintendo on a scheduled 1996 release date exclusively for the Virtual Boy. Had it been released prior to cancellation, it would have become the first F-Zero installment to have featured 3D graphics. In the game, players can choose between one of four characters, each with their respective hovercar and race against AI-controlled characters in fifteen tracks divided into three leagues. The title was previewed in video game magazines but it was ultimately shelved due to the failure of the Virtual Boy itself, despite being completed for release.
